Did you miss the Valley Home 4H Halloween Monsters' Masquerade at the Valley Home Haunted Park last Saturday night? If so, shame on you. It was an outstanding scary, spooky, ghoulish event that was done with a great deal of thought and work and greatly enjoyed by many visitors from near and far. At one time 22 vehicles were seen parked along dark Pioneer Ave. in front of the park and in the school parking lot.

Attendance was high on Saturday for the Valley Home PTC sponsored Harvest Festival. There was lots to see and do for the attending crowd. It was wonderful to see so many smiles on our children's faces as they played football toss, bobbed for donuts, raced tricycles, got their faces painted, tried their hand at dropping clothespins into a milk bottle, a lollipop pull and the excitement of being a lucky winner in the cake walk and more! The Cogburn family left many visitors with chills and thrills after visiting their spooky haunted house!

The arrival of the fall season heralds the arrival of one of Valley Home's most enjoyable activities. Excitement has been building as our community readies for one of our most anticipated fun filled festivals. The Valley Home Parent Teacher Club proudly presents their annual Harvest Festival this coming Saturday, October 15th from 4-7 p.m. at the Pioneer Avenue campus. Lots of excitement in the air as Valley Home residents dive into preparations for the Annual Valley Home Harvest Festival coming up on October 15th. The Scarecrow contest already has works in progress. Pumpkins are receiving lots of TLC in preparation for entry in the pumpkin contest. Last Saturday, the Valley Home Community Park was the site of birthday festivities for Avery Kay Cornett. The park pavilion was transformed into a gala setting to celebrate little Avery's first birthday. About forty guests attended the celebration to honor Avery which was hosted by her parents, Shane Cornett and Emma-Rubio Cornett. Barbecue dinner and special birthday cake was enjoyed by all and served at tables covered with purple tablecloths. Clusters of purple balloons attached to the pavilion posts with ties of curled purple ribbon carried out the color theme.

We would like to offer a big warm Valley Home WELCOME to Steve and Viki Reeves, and their children, Cameron and Haili, who have recently moved to our community. The family formerly resided in Jamestown and we are told they are active members of the Oakdale Saddle Club. We understand that they are also involved in raising and training roping horses and ponies. We also learn in addition, that the Reeves family also competes in roping and rodeo events and we look forward to watching them in action at the Oakdale rodeo.

The Bryhni family, who are all big Giants fans, traveled to San Francisco this past weekend. Kathy, Brooke, Sierra and Garrett enjoyed a tremendous outing by the Giants and also appreciated the opportunity to be part of such a moving tribute to 9/11. Maybe the family should go to more games as it seems to have brought luck to the team by the Bay!

We have received word from Valley Home PTC president, Sherri Rathbun, that the meeting of the group on September 1st was a productive one. Mr. Trunnell our 5th/6th grade teacher reported to the club that he and the students going to Washington D.C. in June, will be having several fundraising events to reduce the cost of the trip. School is off to a great start! We understand that MoHawk the school mascot is currently residing with Ms. Vuyovich's 1st grade class. They won the mascot in the first week of the weekly Hawk Spirit Wear competition. Will the rivalry with Ms. Davis' second graders be rekindled this year? We enjoyed a recent opportunity to meet and visit with W.C. Koch, a cousin of Cindy Fleischer, a former long time resident of our Valley Home community, who dropped by to bring us up to date on the Fleischer family activities. Cindy and Chuck now reside at Dardanelle, where she and Chuck own a grocery store, gas station and lodgings. The couple were always quite active in our Valley Home, especially with our community and Volunteer Firefighter activities before moving up to their current location.

Residents of the San Joaquin Neighborhood Watch group joined with Valley Home residents to celebrate a successful Neighborhood National Night Out on last Tuesday evening with a potluck dinner held in our new Valley Center Community Park. The food was abundant and delicious and the company great. We enjoyed a very interesting and informative presentation by Sgt. Your reporter was unable to visit the Fair and see our 4-H'ers in action, however, one of our readers sent me some E-mail photos of the heifers being shown by Jennifer Schaefle, Gracie Azevedo and Justin Azevedo. The smiles on our 4-H'ers faces really brightened my day and made up for not being able to attend the event myself. The smiles just radiated as the threesome displayed their animals for the Judges. Oak Valley Art Society members met at the Escalon Library on Saturday, and members enjoyed a very informative program on art techniques offered by long time member, and prize winning artist, Dorothy Girling. Due to a mix-up, the artist scheduled to demonstrate that day was unavailable and the group was treated to a very enjoyable program by Dorothy, who offered helpful hints to the group on working with pastels and various and helpful hints on that medium.

Our Valley Home MAC committee will be meeting tonight, January 16 at the Valley Home school. The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. in the school library. These meetings are a wonderful way to keep the line between the residents and the county representatives. There will be reports of what has happened since last meeting, what is scheduled to happen in the near future and also an opportunity to report a problem that may need to be forwarded to the county leaders. We hope that Santa was able to make his visit to our Valley Home area and deliver a sleigh full of Christmas cheer even though he was greeted by rainy weather!
