We hope that Santa was able to make his visit to our Valley Home area and deliver a sleigh full of Christmas cheer even though he was greeted by rainy weather! Valley Home residents were still able to enjoy wending their way through our streets in the rain, and enjoy the colorful display of lighted homes. Even though we had to undergo heavy rain at times, the lights were enveloped in a misty glow that was beautiful to see.

Lots of excitement emanating from Valley Home School today as the Valley Home PTC throw open the doors for their annual Christmas gift store for the students. The Christmas Store is a much anticipated highlight of the year for the students. Students have an opportunity to look for and purchase gifts for their families. Prices are kept low and members of the PTC are on hand to wrap the items the students purchase so their selections are all ready for Christmas giving. It was a cold and foggy evening on Saturday, however, it didn't dampen the spirits of all those who gathered to view our annual Valley Home Community Christmas Parade. Christmas spirit and warmth filled the air as residents gathered and lined the streets to watch the colorful annual Christmas Lighted Parade as it wound its way through the center of town.

Our Valley Home 4-H'ers are very proud to announce the 2012 Grand Marshall for our "Old Tyme Christmas Parade". Our 2012 Grand Marshal is Mr. Marcel Dickens and his lovely wife, Kathy. Marcel was a Valley Home 4-H community leader several years ago. He and his wife have been very active in their Valley home community. At present, their grandson, Austin is very involved in Valley Home 4-H and also very active within the community. This week has been a busy week for our 4-H'ers and we are told that next week promises to be even busier! The members will be working on their Christmas float entry this Friday night at the Barretto family ranch. The group will be putting the finishing touches on their delightful Candy House entry for the Lighted Escalon Christmas Parade in which they will ride and wave at viewers on Saturday, December 1st during the evening on Main Street in Escalon. Be sure to watch for starting time.

It seems like the Holidays have really crept up fast on us this year! This past week our Valley Home 4-Hers celebrated their accomplishments during the past months with a delicious dinner and awards ceremony. Special guests for the evening were Mrs. Jan Hempleman, former Valley Home 4-H leader and Mr. Ken Wilmarth, retired Stanislaus County 4-H Program Director. Laughter, generated by lots of fun and friendship filled the Valley Home School Gym as our 4-H'ers enjoyed the evening together! There will be the delicious odor of baking delectable goodies filling the air throughout our community this coming week as our 4-H'ers busy themselves baking up a storm of delicious goodies to sell at their booth. The Valley Home MAC will be hosting the Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) Bi-Annual Meeting on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 for the eight county MACs beginning at the Community Center Park and concluding at the Valley Home Fire Station (a short walk). Arrival & Reception at 5:30 - 6:00 p.m. and a light dinner will be provided during reception.

Valley Home News for September 26, 2012

Smiles could be seen all around on Saturday in our community as folks gathered for a fundraiser for our beautiful little Valley Home Community Park. The laughter of children and teenagers could be heard throughout the park. Neighbors, friends and families greeted each other with hearty handshakes and friendly hugs. The mouth-watering aroma of the Mike Jerome Family Catered dinner drew folks who were just passing by or were nearby neighbors. Compliments are sent to the chef!

A bad break ... Just as irrigation season is beginning our wonderful hard working neighbor Darlene Nunes suffered a broken foot. The break was very serious and will really be hard on Darlene. The Nunes family is well known throughout our Valley Home community for their dedication to this rural way of life we all love so much! Darlene and Alvin just give a holler if you need anything ... you know you have a community that thinks the world of you both and is ready to help in any way needed!

This week is an exciting week for future kindergarten students at Valley Home School! Today, Wednesday March 11, is registration day! It's always such a big day for the youngsters and parents alike ... It's a bittersweet time for many parents as they realize how quickly their little one is growing. Registration will be held on the Texas Avenue campus from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Our Valley Home 4-Hers met last evening for their monthly community meeting. The 4-Hers are holding a drive thru Tri Tip dinner this Friday evening. The Tri Tip will be smoked and the dinner will have sides of beans, dinner rolls and salad. The dinner will serve a family of four and the cost is $35. VALLEY HOME NEWS- 2-25-15

This week we salute a local hero. Gene Benedix was wounded in combat in 1951 during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart commendation. He never received the actual Purple Heart medal. There will be a special presentation by Congressman Jeff Denham on April 7, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Gladys Lemmons Senior Center to present this medal. Please try to attend. This past week I had the opportunity to visit with a young man I hadn't seen for a very long time. Seeing Cy Chrisman all grown up was a reminder to me of how quickly the years are going by. A great chance to support our Valley Home School ... Thursday, February 12th "On the Scene Cuisine" will be providing a tri-tip and ribs dinner. The dinner is a fundraiser for the Asilomar field trip costs! Each dinner will include tri-tip and ribs, five cheese homemade macaroni and cheese, molasses baked beans, buttered corn, garlic bread, and dessert! We send our heartfelt sympathy to our Knights Ferry neighbors. Once again this small tight knit community has lost one of their own. Glenda Maisel passed away very suddenly this past week. Glenda and her husband Rick owned and operated the historic Knights Ferry General Store, Bar and Glenda's Deli. Many folks, including several of us here in Valley Home will remember Glenda's delicious cooking!
