Smiles could be seen all around on Saturday in our community as folks gathered for a fundraiser for our beautiful little Valley Home Community Park. The laughter of children and teenagers could be heard throughout the park. Neighbors, friends and families greeted each other with hearty handshakes and friendly hugs. The mouth-watering aroma of the Mike Jerome Family Catered dinner drew folks who were just passing by or were nearby neighbors. Compliments are sent to the chef!

Erin Balaam shares some important information with us concerning the Northern California Junior Rodeo Association finals that will occur on September 8th and 9th at the Oakdale Rodeo Grounds. We are told that the following young people have worked all year to qualify in the top ten for one or more of their events. We are happy to share some more news on the activities of our Valley Home 4-H'ers at the Stanislaus County Fair. Our 4-H members here in Valley Home always put on a good showing at the Fair and this year was no exception. Our community was well represented in all areas of the livestock entries. We have received word that our Valley Home community was very well represented at the California State Fair. Our 4-Hers Jenna Heaton, Cody Bartholomew, Samuel Fletcher, Conner and Collin McKenzie and helped by Benjamin Fletcher, brought home many ribbons and lots of happy memories. On Saturday cars and pickups lined both sides of the road leading into the Taro Ranch on East Dodds Road and also filled the empty field adjacent to the Taro home. There was excitement in the air as friends and neighbors gathered at the Taro Ranch to join in the birthday festivities, or as the invitations stated "A very special Wild West Hoedown" for one of our favorite people, Tony Taro, who was celebrating his 90th birthday. Preferred attire for the festivities was Country Western, and guests were delighted to oblige.

Tammie Smith sent us this wonderful news item concerning the exciting trip enjoyed by the Valley Home School Washington DC Travel Club. The group returned home on June 29 from their Washington DC and Virginia trip after a rocky start resulting from a flight cancellation leaving the group stranded in Los Angeles until a flight for 10 persons to Miami could be booked. The group had a very turbulent and scary flight through tropical storm Debby. She had to stop at the corner of Pleasant Valley and Sawyer to change the trailer hitch ball because she had the wrong one on her truck.

Our Oakdale High Football team was well represented this past Saturday at Levi's Stadium! Mustang colors dominated the crowd with the opposing colors of Buffalo green being not so dominant. The game was a thriller with our Mustangs coming out on top. Our cheerleaders and football players were brilliant and represented our area with tremendous pride and hard work. Go Mustangs!

It's not too early to mark your calendars for October 25th. That is when our Valley Home School will host their annual Fall Harvest Festival! The festival is an important fundraiser for the school and all proceeds directly benefit our Valley Home students. There will be a huge silent auction, giant pumpkin contest, scarecrow contest, pumpkin patch, delicious food, pies, games, and tons of other exciting fun.
