Being the third Wednesday of the month, tonight is the meeting night for the Valley Home Municipal Advisory (MAC). The Valley Home MAC is an important means to know what is happening in our community. Reports are presented at the meeting by representatives from various county agencies in addition to the Oakdale Rural Fire Department, and the California Highway Patrol. The meeting is held at 6:30 p.m. in the library of the Valley Home School. All are invited and encouraged to attend.

We have received word that San Joaquin County (Lone Tree, Henry, Steinegul and Seidner area roads) will be having their annual Neighborhood Watch potluck family meeting and BBQ on September 12th at 4 p.m. at Martin Manor, 15339 Henry Road, Escalon. It is always a pleasure to be able to share exciting news concerning one of our young Valley Home people that we have watched growing up in our community. On August 14th about 50 friends and family members attended the Graduation-Happy Birthday Party for Alanna Jones. Alanna graduated from Oakdale High School with the Class of 2010. Her birthday will be on September 12th, however she will not be home for the celebration. Sheriff Adam Christianson was guest speaker at the Valley Home MAC meeting held on August 18. He addressed issues with budgeting, loss of patrol, detectives and community deputies. He also addressed individual community member concerns regarding recent trespass, theft of personal property and other criminal activity. He also gave information on how to apply for a free service by STARS volunteers in which they stamp farm property with a universal identifying number, which is then placed in a national database to make recovery easier for the property owner. Valley Home residents need to be on the lookout for vandals who have invaded our community. A report was received last week after the VH News had been submitted that our Valley Home School campus had been heavily gang tagged with the tags on the multipurpose room, portable, main building and playground equipment. Anyone seeing any gang colors or gang activity should call 911. We are told that there is also a gang hotline that can be reached. A report of the July 21 Valley Home MAC meeting tells us that the CHP Officer at the council meeting reported that he had issued five traffic citations in the early morning during the month just ended. Otherwise it had been quiet. The Lieutenant from the Sheriff's Department reported that there had been a minimum of activity in the Valley Home area. He passed along the watch commander's telephone number, 525-7188, in the event a resident had an incident to report or had a department question. Sheriff representative Mick Bradford will be assigned to cover future MAC meetings.

This is the week that many of our Valley Home 4H'ers are busy at the Stanislaus County Fair along with their parents so news has been hard to get but the following PeeWee Showmanship news was received late Sunday evening.For the rabbit showmanship award, Kiley Rinna placed 6th in 4H True Novice. Members of the Valley Home community were saddened to receive word that former Oakdale Mayor and friend, Elmo Garcia passed away on July 6th. Elmo was one of those rare people that you could always depend on. Elmo was a staunch supporter of the Oakdale Museum, the Oakdale Historical Society and the Oakdale Garden Club among many other organizations. As Mayor of Oakdale, he attended the ribbon cutting at the grand opening of the museum in 1985 and all the festivities that followed, including the special event where one could make a donation to the museum and enjoy a picnic ...

Valley Home residents enjoyed a quiet Fourth of July this year with picnic luncheons and visiting friends gathering together to watch the annual Fireworks display over Woodward Reservoir. Valley Home residents are in a fortunate position to enjoy the colorful displays lighting the sky over Woodward without having to leave their own back yards. Just another of the many reasons that makes our Valley Home area such a special place to live.

From all appearances, it would seem that there was a mass exodus from our Valley Home community this past week with residents seeking the cooler breezes of both the ocean and the foothills. Our Valley Home community welcomes South Dakota and Minnesota Hi 4-H exchange students Delani Jorgensen and Jared Hillard, along with Jared's mother, Eldonna. The threesome are being hosted by Valley Home 4-H members, Tiffany and Melissa Thompson and Jordan and Nathan Soares and their families during their stay here in our community. We are told that 25 students and chaperones will be staying throughout Stanislaus County during the weeklong exchange. During their time here the students will be visiting such places as Yosemite, Sea Cliff Beach and San Francisco. This is another example of how 4-H provides wonderful opportunities ...

The monthly meetings of the Valley Home Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) resume tonight with a meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Harold Pope School Library. A reminder that these MAC meetings are important to those interested in Valley Home happenings as representatives from various county agencies will make a report on the activities in their department - Sheriff, Animal Services, Public Works, etc. In addition, representatives from the Oakdale Rural Fire Protection District, California Highway Patrol and the Valley Home Community Center will also make presentations. An interested resident of Valley Home will not want to miss this meeting.

Valley Home News Week of May 29, 2013

Your reporter attended the Valley Home Joint School District Graduation on Tuesday evening May 21, 2013. The ceremony held in the school multi-purpose room was quite pleasant and the attractive decoration plants were provided by the Knudsen Nursery. The traditional processional music, Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance brought the fifteen graduates to chairs at the front. Ciara Mitchell, Juana Glover and Juan Cabrera lead the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag followed by a welcome from School Superintendent Mrs. Desrosiers-Lewis.

All those who attended the Silent Movies on Sunday at St. Luke'' Lutheran Church here in Valley Home were in for a special treat. The afternoon showing began with a Charlie Chaplin movie in which the actor really demonstrated his acrobatic talents as an inebriated gentleman arriving home after a big night on the town who meets up with all sorts of obstacles gaining entrance to his home, from losing his house key, climbing through a window, being attacked by stuffed animals, finding his lost key and climbing back out the window to then enter again through the front door ...

Valley Home students and families enjoyed a free family fun night Friday night in the gym. Thanks to the City of Oakdale, a giant inflatable movie screen was set up in the gym and everyone enjoyed "Monsters, Inc." Thanks to Steves Chevrolet, fresh popcorn popped all night and was enjoyed by all. Thanks to Chad Tienken for operating the movie and sound so professionally. Our deepest sympathy to the Tony Taro family on the loss of the family matriarch, Claire Taro. Claire was devoted to her family and her home. Many of her friends referred to her as a truly grand lady. Claire made her family and home her priority. She could always be found cooking, cleaning or working in her garden. Claire was also known for her hospitality to friends and family. Valley Home will miss Claire very much.

Our Valley Home Hawks celebrated their annual Jog-A-Thon last Thursday. The Easter Bunny was on hand to watch the kids run and walk. It was obvious that everyone had some fun. After the jogging, the candy jump was held and the prizes were awarded. Maddie Jones' name was drawn as the winner of the iPad Mini device. The best decorated T-shirt awards went to Brandy Seaton for the K-3 grades and Stephanie Lee for the 4-8 grades. It is that time of year once again when our Valley Home students are stretching their legs and toning up their muscles for the school annual Jog-a-Thon on Thursday, March 28th. This week's Valley Home News leads off with the news received that Bob Yuskaitis our Valley Home friend and dedicated Neighborhood Watch Patrolman for our community was involved in a serious automobile accident on February 11th while crossing Highway 120 at Pioneer Avenue. It appears he was driving home after an evening patrol and his and another vehicle collided, with his car rolled and he received serious, multiple injuries. He is recuperating in a facility in Modesto. The residents of the Greater Valley Home Area wish Bob Yuskailis a full recovery.

It sounds like our Valley Home 4-Hers not only had a great time at their February meeting, but also made lots of money at their annual Box Social on February 5th.
