Valley Home News Week of September 17, 2014

Last week we stopped what we were doing to remember those lives lost on September 11, 2001. A horrible tragedy that changed our world forever. Words cannot express the sadness and overwhelming anger that touched each one of us during one of our country's darkest hours. We cannot change the events of that day, but we can remember those lost and the many public servants who died trying to save them. The date that marks this sad day has passed and as we look toward a brighter future, we honor those who continue to serve our nation's people ...

The dreaded picture... When I started writing this column over a year ago, I really, really did not want a picture of myself printed! I've always enjoyed reading the other columns in The Leader and appreciated the pictures that went along with them. It gives readers a chance to associate names with faces... I guess that I just was not sure a picture could be taken that wouldn't make my family and friends run for the hills! Even after Oakdale Leader Editor Marg Jackson asked my daughter to send a picture of me in for the column, it ...

With our 2014 Stanislaus County Fair behind us and our State Fair in full swing we look at the commitment our FFA and 4-H families have. Much like our youth sports teams the commitment is huge and it is usually a total family commitment! With 4-Hers and FFA students the commitment is year round, and first involves learning about caring for the animals. Next comes hands on experience and attending judging events and project meetings. Then it's ownership. Another remarkable part of both FFA and 4-H is the dedication of great leaders and teachers! These teachers and leaders can ...

Valley Home News Week of July 16, 2014

It's fair time again! Many of us have special memories of attending the county fair in our youth. What great times were had at the fair! The brightly colored Ferris wheel was always my favorite as I was never brave enough for the faster rides. For others it was the tilt-a-whirl...spinning faster and faster until before you knew it, it was spinning you rather than you spinning it. It is wildly fun and for some they can't get enough of it. Whatever your ride of choice the county fair is always a fun time for all! Remember ...

Cost Less Market ... What a spectacular trip it is from Valley Home to go grocery shopping. Taking the time to appreciate this trip is something that I have learned to make a priority. Where else can you drive five minutes to go grocery shopping and pass almond orchards with beautiful blossoms, go past Bushwacker's home, watch cattle and horses grazing on lush green pastures, then at the edge of town and right before shopping, pass over the most spectacular bridge! Crossing this beautiful gateway bridge offers you a moment to reflect. Many thousands use this strong and steady passage ...
