Valley Home members of the Oak Valley Art Society traveled to Escalon on Saturday to enjoy a very informative program by Robert Shatswell of Crownshield Photography in Oakdale on the use of digital cameras for capturing art subjects and the basics to be able to make use of our camera's full potential. Members were invited to bring their own cameras to the meeting and were given insight in the best technique for getting the image they were striving for.

Mike Burghardt and son, Jeff spent the last week enjoying a fun filled trip to Indianapolis to attend the NHRA Funny Car Races and watch their friend, John Force, his daughter, Ashley and John's son-in-law, Robert compete in the races. The trip was also a first airplane ride for Jeff. The trip began with a mix-up in seating for Mike and Jeff, both of whom suffer mal-de-mer if they cannot sit next to a window. We have received word that Valley Home 4-H sign-ups will be held later this month for new members, the exact date yet to be decided. This year the club is again being led by President Carly Thomason. Club officers held their first meeting last week and are very excited about plans for the coming year. Sounds like an evening filled with fun is in the works for Valley Home residents! Valley Home School PTC members are busy working on plans for Back-2-School Graffiti Night Kick-off 2009. The fun and festivities are scheduled for this coming Friday night, August 28, starting at 6:30 p.m. Yum! Valley Home residents need to be on the alert! We have just received word that a U-Haul truck has been seen in the area and witnesses have seen its occupants break into cars and steal the contents. It was seen on Pioneer Avenue close to the schools.

Our young County Fair entrants are enjoying a well-earned rest following the close of the fair activities. We received information that Savannah Rogers and Nikki Truhett rode their horses and competed in the fair Gymkhana and did very well in their events. We heard that both young people spent last week showing their swine.
Gunter Brisi won advanced showmanship in the meat goat class for 4-H and went on to compete against the other 4-H and FFA members last Thursday evening in Master Showmanship Class in which he had to show a goat, beef, dairy, swine and horse. He showed ...

Members of the Oakdale Garden Club are the first group to answer the request by members of the Valley Home Community Center Board of Directors, for help in planting trees at the new Valley Home Community Park. Following a discussion of what type of tree to plant, member, Rosalie Osman made a motion for members to plant four types of Oak trees, which would include the local native Oak. Tena, and her family, would like to offer "a very heartfelt thank you to everyone who has helped, and offered word of comfort and prayers during our Dad's illness…he is doing much better and is home now. The temperature this last week in our community has been warm, especially the first part of the week up to news submission time. The report given to us was at least six days over 100 degrees. We know that this is the San Joaquin Valley and this is July and put those two together and what you get is hot weather but we have been spoiled a bit in early July with a small reduction in the heat. We can wish for it to return but be prepared no matter what direction it goes.

Have you seen it? Seen what? The picnic table pavilion on the Valley Home Community Center Park site. Yes, it has happened. The park construction has started again and is moving along nicely. Next group of things to get accomplished is the laying of the cement for the pavilion floor, the sidewalks and other miscellaneous pads, the installation of the sprinkler system, the electric wiring, and then on to the next group. We received word from proud Grandmother, Shirley Butler, that granddaughter, Molly Smith graduated from California State University on June 14th. Molly graduated cum laude and honors, with a Bachelor in Political Science. A bad break ... Just as irrigation season is beginning our wonderful hard working neighbor Darlene Nunes suffered a broken foot. The break was very serious and will really be hard on Darlene. The Nunes family is well known throughout our Valley Home community for their dedication to this rural way of life we all love so much! It's always such a big day for the youngsters and parents alike ... It's a bittersweet time for many parents as they realize how quickly their little one is growing. Our Valley Home 4-Hers met last evening for their monthly community meeting. The 4-Hers are holding a drive thru Tri Tip dinner this Friday evening. The Tri Tip will be smoked and the dinner will have sides of beans, dinner rolls and salad. The dinner will serve a family of four and the cost is $35. VALLEY HOME NEWS- 2-25-15

This week we salute a local hero. Gene Benedix was wounded in combat in 1951 during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart commendation. He never received the actual Purple Heart medal. There will be a special presentation by Congressman Jeff Denham on April 7, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Gladys Lemmons Senior Center to present this medal. Please try to attend. A great chance to support our Valley Home School ... Thursday, February 12th "On the Scene Cuisine" will be providing a tri-tip and ribs dinner. The dinner is a fundraiser for the Asilomar field trip costs! Each dinner will include tri-tip and ribs, five cheese homemade macaroni and cheese, molasses baked beans, buttered corn, garlic bread, and dessert!
