Valley Home residents began the New Year by welcoming in the new Superintendent/Principal for Valley Home School, Mrs. Rolanda Desrosiers-Lewis, to replace former Superintendent/Principal, Kevin Hart. The first official day for the new Principal began on Tuesday, January 3, as she welcomed the return of our Valley Home students from winter break. Mrs. Desrosiers-Lewis has the distinction of being the first woman to be placed as superintendent/principal for Valley Home School. Can't think of a nicer way to start off the New Year than with a delicious pancake breakfast and that is just what our PTC members have put together for us on January 7th. Breakfast is priced at $3 for children through 8 years with adults at $7, and served from 6-11 a.m.

A report was received from Claire Taro that their daughter Vickie and son-in-law Leo Albers picked she and Tony up in their pickup on December 9th and drove them to Fernley, Nevada where their granddaughter Kristen and husband Joey Volene live with children 13 year old Rebecca and 11 year old Mathew. On Saturday the group went to a piano recital by their great-granddaughter Rebecca who has been taking piano lessons for a year or so. She has been doing well and her performance of three songs included Skateboard Boogie. Her great-grandparents are so proud of her.

One of the highlights of the school year for our Valley Home students is the fun and enjoyment of shopping at the PTC sponsored Holiday Store. The store has become a traditional and enjoyable and a most anticipated event at Valley Home School for many years thanks to the hard work of our PTC members. Just a reminder, in case you may have forgotten to check your calendar, Friday, December 16th has been reserved for the Valley Home School Washington DC Fundraiser Drive-Through Chicken Dinner for Four. The dinner includes chicken, beans, bread, salad and dessert and is priced at $30 and may be picked up at the Pioneer Ave. Valley Home School campus at 5:30 p.m. or after. Presale tickets are available from Halley Smith or 5th/6th grade teacher Justin Trunnell.

Christina and Ashley Barreto, bring us up to date on the 4-H Fundraiser that was held at Tractor supply on Saturday, November 19th; it was a great success! The group offered lots of wonderful goodies and raised $666.73 for the club. A group of our friends and neighbors from our Valley Home community traveled to Knights Ferry on Saturday to attend the fundraising dinner for 22 year old Ashley Bizzanelli. Ashley has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and is currently at Stanford Hospital undergoing treatment. Ashley is the girlfriend of fireman and rural volunteer Alec Mederos. The group enjoyed visiting with friends from Knights Ferry and the special ambiance of the evening. Our Valley Home 4-H'ers will be welcoming new members and their families and handing out awards for last year's accomplishments tonight, November 16th, at the group's annual Potluck and Awards Banquet. Lots of good food will be shared, followed by recognition given for all the hard work accomplished by members throughout the year. Topping off the evening, members will have an opportunity to enjoy a special slide show featuring all the good times enjoyed throughout the year.

Did you miss the Valley Home 4H Halloween Monsters' Masquerade at the Valley Home Haunted Park last Saturday night? If so, shame on you. It was an outstanding scary, spooky, ghoulish event that was done with a great deal of thought and work and greatly enjoyed by many visitors from near and far. At one time 22 vehicles were seen parked along dark Pioneer Ave. in front of the park and in the school parking lot.

Attendance was high on Saturday for the Valley Home PTC sponsored Harvest Festival. There was lots to see and do for the attending crowd. It was wonderful to see so many smiles on our children's faces as they played football toss, bobbed for donuts, raced tricycles, got their faces painted, tried their hand at dropping clothespins into a milk bottle, a lollipop pull and the excitement of being a lucky winner in the cake walk and more! The Cogburn family left many visitors with chills and thrills after visiting their spooky haunted house!

The arrival of the fall season heralds the arrival of one of Valley Home's most enjoyable activities. Excitement has been building as our community readies for one of our most anticipated fun filled festivals. We send our heartfelt sympathy to our Knights Ferry neighbors. Once again this small tight knit community has lost one of their own. Glenda Maisel passed away very suddenly this past week. Glenda and her husband Rick owned and operated the historic Knights Ferry General Store, Bar and Glenda's Deli. Many folks, including several of us here in Valley Home will remember Glenda's delicious cooking! It was back to school this past week for our Valley Home school students. Looking for a bright spot, the students were excited to learn they would have a vacation day on January 9th and also on January 19th! January 9th was a staff development day and January 19th is Martin Luther King Jr. day. On January 21st there will be a teacher collaboration meeting at 3:00pm. Family and friends were treated to a most special evening this past Friday night! The afterschool program presented a delightful Christmas program filled with magic and holiday spirit.
