A fabulous trip to the floral market in San Francisco, hands on trip to the poultry show and on Wednesday, February 22, our Oakdale FFA will host their annual cake auction! This exciting event will be held at the Gene Bianchi Center and will start at 6 p.m. All are welcome to come and support our Oakdale FFA! This coming Tuesday is a very special evening for our Valley Home 4-H! Please come out and support your 4-Hers as they raise much needed funds for club projects and activities. The old fashioned Box Social will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the school gym. Fantastic items will be up for bid! "We are the Champions!" Last week our Oakdale High Football teams received much deserved awards and accolades in a standing room only ceremony! Fun ... and more fun in Valley Home! At their January community meeting our Valley Home 4-Hers made big plans for the February Box Social. The 4-Hers hold the old-fashioned box social each year to raise much needed funds for club activities. Each 4-Her will be responsible for bringing items to the box social. Christmas came early, a magical weekend unfolded throughout our area as our Oakdale High Mustangs showed the world what it means to be a Mustang football player! Hard work, early morning practices, after school practices, in the extreme heat, working out in 100-degree weather, hitting the weight room, it all paid in dividends when this powerhouse football team defeated Bishop's High School in San Diego, California!

Community members have worked hours and hours to ensure a Christmas celebration with many special memories! Our Community Lighted Christmas Parade will start at 6 p.m. The best viewing area is in front of the Texas Avenue K-3rd campus. Our 2016 Grand Marshal is Ag Teacher Kristi Short. Knights Ferry News

Knights Ferry Community Club Christmas dinner was well attended. There was a lot of food and good cheer. Oakdale High School's choir, under the direction of Bryan Mills, performed. Student Thomas Mason sang Mr. Grinch to the audience and it was great! The choir sang and signed "Silent Night". A group of four girls put together a medley of songs that they sang, very cute! The program ended with a sing-a-long. What a great way to start the season!

Valley Home would like to extend our most heartfelt sympathy to the family of Stanislaus Sheriff's Deputy Dennis Wallace. Deputy Wallace's life was tragically cut short last Sunday morning. Valley Home is deeply grateful to Deputy Wallace and the many years he spent serving the public. We are terribly saddened by the loss of this wonderful, dedicated officer. The alleged gunman has been apprehended and if guilty will be held accountable and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Sad news in Valley Home with the passing of a most caring man, Mr. Harold Pope. Mr. Pope left this world to be with the angels on October 31st. He was fondly known as the teacher/principal who gave his all to Valley Home. His wonderful life was blessed with daughters Sandy Mercer, Barbara Aker and son Keith Pope and the late Cheryl Hayes. He was a devoted grandfather to eight grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
