In last week's column I stated that Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson would be at tonight's meeting of the Valley Home Municipal Advisory Council meeting and I wish to make that announcement again. Yes, Sheriff Christianson is scheduled to attend tonight's meeting of the Valley Home MAC. You do not want to miss this meeting as there has been some unwanted activity such as gang tagging of buildings, trespassing and theft in the Valley Home area this past few weeks and the sheriff will be discussing what has happened and how we can be prepared for what ...

Valley Home residents need to be on the lookout for vandals who have invaded our community. A report was received last week after the VH News had been submitted that our Valley Home School campus had been heavily gang tagged with the tags on the multipurpose room, portable, main building and playground equipment. Anyone seeing any gang colors or gang activity should call 911. We are told that there is also a gang hotline that can be reached. Residents should make it an effort to attend the August 18th meeting of the Valley Home MAC. Sheriff Adam Christianson will be ...

A report of the July 21 Valley Home MAC meeting tells us that the CHP Officer at the council meeting reported that he had issued five traffic citations in the early morning during the month just ended. Otherwise it had been quiet. The Lieutenant from the Sheriff's Department reported that there had been a minimum of activity in the Valley Home area. He passed along the watch commander's telephone number, 525-7188, in the event a resident had an incident to report or had a department question. Sheriff representative Mick Bradford will be assigned to cover future MAC meetings.

Valley Home School summer vacation is beginning to draw to a close and our mind has begun to focus, perhaps a little reluctantly for those of us who have enjoyed a lazy, fun filled summer, on thoughts of school starting up once again and returning to studies.

VALLEY HOME NEWS FOR JULY 14, 2010

Members of the Valley Home community were saddened to receive word that former Oakdale Mayor and friend, Elmo Garcia passed away on July 6th. Elmo was one of those rare people that you could always depend on. Elmo was a staunch supporter of the Oakdale Museum, the Oakdale Historical Society and the Oakdale Garden Club among many other organizations. As Mayor of Oakdale, he attended the ribbon cutting at the grand opening of the museum in 1985 and all the festivities that followed, including the special event where one could make a donation to the museum and enjoy a picnic ...

Valley Home residents enjoyed a quiet Fourth of July this year with picnic luncheons and visiting friends gathering together to watch the annual Fireworks display over Woodward Reservoir. Valley Home residents are in a fortunate position to enjoy the colorful displays lighting the sky over Woodward without having to leave their own back yards. Just another of the many reasons that makes our Valley Home area such a special place to live.

From all appearances, it would seem that there was a mass exodus from our Valley Home community this past week with residents seeking the cooler breezes of both the ocean and the foothills. For those of us who stayed home and braved the heat, the community seemed unusually quiet, with almost no traffic to speak of.

There is action at the Valley Home Community Center pavilion site, things are happening. Last week's activity was the building of the concrete forms for the floor of the pavilion and the pouring of the concrete. There was a large group of concrete workers who demonstrated their skill and by early afternoon there lay before us a beautiful concrete floor that had a smooth as glass rim border and a center section that gave the appearance of etched rockwork. A sidewalk was also laid from the edge of the pavilion across the soon to be grass covered dirt to ...

The multipurpose room at Valley Home School became a western setting on Wednesday evening, May 19th as a background for the eighth grade graduation ceremony. Western saddles and blankets displayed on a fence and containers of garden plants provided a setting on one side of the graduate seating, with benches, cowboy hats, lariats and colorful plants decorating the opposite side of the setting. As the first notes of the traditional Pomp and Circumstance by Elgar sounded, the procession of graduates advanced to the ceremony site.

We always enjoy sharing in the joy of birthday festivities for one of our favorite Valley Home residents. Hazel Henry had a wonderful day from morning to night enjoying festivities hosted by members of her family who gathered to help her celebrate her birthday on May 9th. Hazel tells us she had "a wonderful birthday and Mother's Day all in the same day." She tells us that her son-in-law and daughter, Frank and Patsy Carpenter came from Layton, Nevada, and cooked a delicious turkey dinner to celebrate the occasion.

This week's Valley Home News came close to not being. We had a power failure here at the ranch lasting for four days that could not be immediately remedied, and in fact is still not working. A very nice PG&E worker came to our assistance first and turned off the electricity so that repairs could be made. Fortunately, we have a wonderful friend who is an electrician and general handyman, who came to our aid and in addition to working many hours installing new wiring, poles and gadgets also generously loaned us the use of his gas generator ...
