There were lots of happy smiles to be seen on the faces of those attending the PTC sponsored Harvest Festival held at the Valley Home School Pioneer Ave campus on Saturday evening. The parking lot at the school featured a 4-H Petting Zoo and lots of fun activity booths manned by the students. Inside the multipurpose room were tables decorated with fall foliage where family members could sit and enjoy delicious food and soft drinks. Highlighting the menu was a meal combo offing a tri-tip sandwich made and served by Gina Betschart and Family - Ferrarese's Catering.

A Memorial service was held on October 7th at the River Oak Church in Oakdale for Ed Tribby. Ed actively served the Oakdale community as an Equipment Operator for Oakdale City Public Works. He spent countless hours helping his Valley Home friends and neighbors, and his church develop and build construction projects locally. Ed was involved in work to save the old Valley Home Community Center, and when that could not be accomplished, he chaired the committee to establish a park on the ground where the old Clubhouse once stood. We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of friend and neighbor, Ed Tribby. Ed will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and working with him. Ed was the chairman of the group of residents who worked so hard to try and save the old Valley Home Community Center and when that proved impossible, he worked hard to overcome County obstacles, and turn the now empty area into a park to benefit our Valley Home community. It was great to see so many Valley Home residents attending the O.I.D. "A Century of Service Celebration" held at the Gene Bianchi Community Center on Saturday. A large crowd turned out to attend the event and luncheon, which was followed by an introduction of speakers who congratulated O.I.D. on its many years of service to the community and the important role that O.I.D. has played in our community. Valley Home members of the Oak Valley Art Society traveled to Escalon on Saturday to enjoy a very informative program by Robert Shatswell of Crownshield Photography in Oakdale on the use of digital cameras for capturing art subjects and the basics to be able to make use of our camera's full potential. Members were invited to bring their own cameras to the meeting and were given insight in the best technique for getting the image they were striving for.
Mike Burghardt and son, Jeff spent the last week enjoying a fun filled trip to Indianapolis to attend the NHRA Funny Car Races and watch their friend, John Force, his daughter, Ashley and John's son-in-law, Robert compete in the races. The trip was also a first airplane ride for Jeff. The trip began with a mix-up in seating for Mike and Jeff, both of whom suffer mal-de-mer if they cannot sit next to a window. We have received word that Valley Home 4-H sign-ups will be held later this month for new members, the exact date yet to be decided. This year the club is again being led by President Carly Thomason. Club officers held their first meeting last week and are very excited about plans for the coming year. One of the exciting items discussed was a community service project being led by Ashlyn and Bailey Bertao to help with the cost of replacing a police dog that was recently killed in the line of duty. Homemade pie, delicious ice cream and a heartwarming silent cowboy movie will welcome everyone this Saturday, April 25th at St John's/St Luke's Church. The fun will begin at 2:00 p.m. and is an ongoing fundraiser for the "church well fund." We hope everyone will attend and enjoy this very special day! A bad break ... Just as irrigation season is beginning our wonderful hard working neighbor Darlene Nunes suffered a broken foot. The break was very serious and will really be hard on Darlene. The Nunes family is well known throughout our Valley Home community for their dedication to this rural way of life we all love so much! Darlene and Alvin just give a holler if you need anything ... you know you have a community that thinks the world of you both and is ready to help in any way needed!
This week is an exciting week for future kindergarten students at Valley Home School! Today, Wednesday March 11, is registration day! It's always such a big day for the youngsters and parents alike ... It's a bittersweet time for many parents as they realize how quickly their little one is growing. Registration will be held on the Texas Avenue campus from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
