Your reporter was unable to visit the Fair and see our 4-H'ers in action, however, one of our readers sent me some E-mail photos of the heifers being shown by Jennifer Schaefle, Gracie Azevedo and Justin Azevedo. The smiles on our 4-H'ers faces really brightened my day and made up for not being able to attend the event myself. The smiles just radiated as the threesome displayed their animals for the Judges. Gracie was the recipient of 2nd place overall showmanship and Justin received 5th place in overall showmanship. Jennifer received a 5th place award in dairy cattle ...

In last week's column we wrote about Garret Bryhni's exciting win at the Fair and his entry beating out over 400 other pigs and that he was now looking for buyers for the animal. Garret named his animal "All That" and his entry came away with the title of Supreme Champion Market Hog, and thanks to the efforts of "Friends of Garret" he received $41.00 a pound, $11,152, for his 272-pound hog. We received word that "All That" will happily ...

If anyone is interested in buying an animal or helping a 4H'er they should contact Tammie at 604-6942.

History has been made again in Valley Home with the dedication of the new Valley Home Community Center Park on Saturday, June 18, 2011. Music filled the air thanks to new Valley Home resident D.J. Ken Soffiotto and his Cruiser Music Productions. The wonderful aroma of steak and chicken sandwiches prepared by Jerome Food Catering of Valley Home greeted visitors as they arrived at the park. Attendees soon found out that there was more to remember about the food than the aroma, it was outstanding.

The weather turned out great on Saturday for the 4-H sponsored Easter Egg Hunt and a good number of egg hunters showed up for the fun event! Our 4-H Easter Bunny helpers did a great job hiding the eggs on the grounds of the "old" school and the weather couldn't have been better for the hunt. The eggs were dyed and decorated by the 4-H'ers in Chairman Jenna Heaton and Cody Bartholomew's barn and afterward the kids all enjoyed a marshmallow roast out by the fire.

Cost Less Market ... What a spectacular trip it is from Valley Home to go grocery shopping. Taking the time to appreciate this trip is something that I have learned to make a priority. Where else can you drive five minutes to go grocery shopping and pass almond orchards with beautiful blossoms, go past Bushwacker's home, watch cattle and horses grazing on lush green pastures, then at the edge of town and right before shopping, pass over the most spectacular bridge!
