We are happy to share some more news on the activities of our Valley Home 4-H'ers at the Stanislaus County Fair. Our 4-H members here in Valley Home always put on a good showing at the Fair and this year was no exception. Our community was well represented in all areas of the livestock entries. After much hard work, long hours and doing a wonderful job of demonstrating their skills at showing their animals were: Justina and Marrisa Hicks in the Sheep Barn and paying a visit to the Dairy Barn, we find that Jenny and Heidi Schaeffle did ...

The hot weather we have been sweltering in the past couple of weeks seems to have taken a toll on Valley Home activities this past week. There is the old saying that "no news is good news" however, in this case we are disappointed at not having received a word from our Valley Home 4-H entrants in the County Fair!
On Saturday cars and pickups lined both sides of the road leading into the Taro Ranch on East Dodds Road and also filled the empty field adjacent to the Taro home. There was excitement in the air as friends and neighbors gathered at the Taro Ranch to join in the birthday festivities, or as the invitations stated "A very special Wild West Hoedown" for one of our favorite people, Tony Taro, who was celebrating his 90th birthday. Preferred attire for the festivities was Country Western, and guests were delighted to oblige.
Tammie Smith sent us this wonderful news item concerning the exciting trip enjoyed by the Valley Home School Washington DC Travel Club. The group returned home on June 29 from their Washington DC and Virginia trip after a rocky start resulting from a flight cancellation leaving the group stranded in Los Angeles until a flight for 10 persons to Miami could be booked. The group had a very turbulent and scary flight through tropical storm Debby. Tammie tells us that "due to weather and airline changes, in order to get to our destinations we used 6 different airports in 3 ...
Just a reminder that the fireworks display at Woodward Reservoir will be held on Sunday, July 1st this year. Whether you enjoy the colorful fireworks display from out at the Lake or from your own backyard here in Valley Home it is always quite a spectacular show and a great way to celebrate the Fourth of July Season with family and friends.
Now is the time to take a moment, grab a pen and circle Sunday, July 1 on your calendar as a reminder that the Annual Fourth of July Fireworks display at the reservoir will undergo a day and a time change this year. The Fourth will actually take place during the middle of the week this year. The fireworks display over the reservoir is always awesome and those of us who are fortunate to reside here in our Valley Home community have the added benefit of sitting out in our back yards or fields that evening to enjoy the spectacular ...
Kathleen Burghardt-Cobb asked me to pass the following on to our readers. One of our Valley Home neighbors helped her out the other day when she was pulling her horse trailer home. She had to stop at the corner of Pleasant Valley and Sawyer to change the trailer hitch ball because she had the wrong one on her truck.
Our Valley Home Silent Film devotees enjoyed an afternoon of "old time" movie fun on Sunday afternoon as we watched Ronald (Buster Keaton) do his best to win the love of his college days, Mary, who is being pursued by his competition, her jock boyfriend, Jeff, who takes her hostage in her dormitory room and tries to get her to marry him. Mary manages to contact Ronald by telephone, who, in a sudden show of athleticism, sprints to her Dormitory building, pole vaults into her window, and fights off Jeff by throwing household objects at him. Mary agrees to marry ...
Let's hear a resounding applause for two of our Valley Home young people, who received the Most Valuable Players Award in Basketball. They are Amanda Kerns and Dillon Arenebeck. Amanda is on the Girls 8th Grade A Team and Dillon played on the 7th Grade Boys A Team. Congratulations to both young people on the accomplishments, Valley Home is proud of you!
Kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade all enjoyed field trips this past week. Previously, 5th-8th grade traveled to San Francisco to visit the Planetarium in Golden Gate Park. The field trips were funded by our Valley Home PTC through their fundraising efforts with See's Candy and Gold Canyon Candle sales. A big Thank You to our parents and community for your support to make these extra enrichment activities possible.
Once again it is that time of year when Valley Home residents can look forward to a delightful step back in time, relax, sit back and enjoy a Sunday afternoon of good old fashioned silent film comedy. We have received word from Sharon Hofmann that St. John's Lutheran Church here in Valley Home is preparing to host their Seventh Annual Silent Movie, on Sunday, June 3 at 3 p.m.
