There was an error by your reporter in last week's column concerning the meeting of the Valley Home Municipal Advisory Council, the date for the meeting is tonight, April 20th, and begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be held in the library located at the "old" campus on Texas Avenue. The meeting will have a speaker from STARS who will speak on the Farm Watch Program. All interested residents need to be there. You could save some valuable property if you follow their suggestions.

We have received important information from Nancy Osmundson, Chairperson for our Valley Home Mac meetings to be sure to circle Wednesday, April 20 on your calendars and plan to attend a very important meeting for our Neighborhood Watch program. Nancy has spoken with the STARS volunteers and invited them to our Valley Home Mac meeting. We will have a member from that group scheduled to speak about the Owner Applied Numbers for the Farm Watch program.

Our Valley Home area was host to one of the most beautiful almond blossom displays we have enjoyed for several years. Those trees on Pioneer Avenue near Highway 120 were exceptionally pretty and seemed to last the longest.

"The Salisbury, North Carolina Davis & Elkins softball team opened the 2011 season in strong fashion Friday afternoon, February 23rd, as they defeated Winston-Salem State University 11-3 in the Catawba College Tournament." Our Red Hatters enjoy selecting a different restaurant each month to visit and enjoy lunch while attending to club business and formulating plans for various projects and activities. We are delighted to share this news flash about Alanna Jones who is attending Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, West Virginia. Alanna is majoring in Exercise Science and we have just received the news that she has been named to the Fall 2010 Dean's List. Students on the Davis & Elkins Dean List must earn a 3.6 GPA on a 4.0 scale while taking a minimum of 12 semester hours. Valley Home 4-H Club members are beginning to get back in action after winter vacation. Club reporter Garret Bryhni shares the following information with us. Valley Home 4-H would like to say thanks to Christina Barreto and 'Pat from Ripon'. Pat answered Christina's ad on Craig's List and very generously donated two Singer Genie sewing machines to the club. This allowed Christina to become our new Sewing Project Leader.

A bad break ... Just as irrigation season is beginning our wonderful hard working neighbor Darlene Nunes suffered a broken foot. The break was very serious and will really be hard on Darlene. It's always such a big day for the youngsters and parents alike ... It's a bittersweet time for many parents as they realize how quickly their little one is growing. Our Valley Home 4-Hers met last evening for their monthly community meeting. The 4-Hers are holding a drive thru Tri Tip dinner this Friday evening. The Tri Tip will be smoked and the dinner will have sides of beans, dinner rolls and salad. The dinner will serve a family of four and the cost is $35. VALLEY HOME NEWS- 2-25-15

This week we salute a local hero. Gene Benedix was wounded in combat in 1951 during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart commendation. He never received the actual Purple Heart medal. There will be a special presentation by Congressman Jeff Denham on April 7, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Gladys Lemmons Senior Center to present this medal. Please try to attend.
