There were lots of happy smiles to be seen on the faces of those attending the PTC sponsored Harvest Festival held at the Valley Home School Pioneer Ave campus on Saturday evening. The parking lot at the school featured a 4-H Petting Zoo and lots of fun activity booths manned by the students. Inside the multipurpose room were tables decorated with fall foliage where family members could sit and enjoy delicious food and soft drinks. Highlighting the menu was a meal combo offing a tri-tip sandwich made and served by Gina Betschart and Family - Ferrarese's Catering.

Get set for a wonderful afternoon and evening of Halloween fun and good food. Our Valley Home Harvest Festival is here! Saturday, October 24th from 3-7 p.m. in the gym at the Valley Home Pioneer Avenue Campus…12321 Pioneer Avenue and all are welcome. Plan to participate in various games offering fun prizes to be won! This year we will have a penny pitch, bring other coins from home and toss to win a prize as you help by donating those coins to our penny drive for school-wide assemblies.

A Memorial service was held on October 7th at the River Oak Church in Oakdale for Ed Tribby. Ed actively served the Oakdale community as an Equipment Operator for Oakdale City Public Works. He spent countless hours helping his Valley Home friends and neighbors, and his church develop and build construction projects locally. Ed was involved in work to save the old Valley Home Community Center, and when that could not be accomplished, he chaired the committee to establish a park on the ground where the old Clubhouse once stood. We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of friend and neighbor, Ed Tribby. Ed will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and working with him. It was great to see so many Valley Home residents attending the O.I.D. "A Century of Service Celebration" held at the Gene Bianchi Community Center on Saturday. A large crowd turned out to attend the event and luncheon, which was followed by an introduction of speakers who congratulated O.I.D. on its many years of service to the community and the important role that O.I.D. has played in our community. Valley Home members of the Oak Valley Art Society traveled to Escalon on Saturday to enjoy a very informative program by Robert Shatswell of Crownshield Photography in Oakdale on the use of digital cameras for capturing art subjects and the basics to be able to make use of our camera's full potential. Members were invited to bring their own cameras to the meeting and were given insight in the best technique for getting the image they were striving for.

Mike Burghardt and son, Jeff spent the last week enjoying a fun filled trip to Indianapolis to attend the NHRA Funny Car Races and watch their friend, John Force, his daughter, Ashley and John's son-in-law, Robert compete in the races. We have received word that Valley Home 4-H sign-ups will be held later this month for new members, the exact date yet to be decided. This year the club is again being led by President Carly Thomason. Club officers held their first meeting last week and are very excited about plans for the coming year. Sounds like an evening filled with fun is in the works for Valley Home residents! Valley Home School PTC members are busy working on plans for Back-2-School Graffiti Night Kick-off 2009. Our young County Fair entrants are enjoying a well-earned rest following the close of the fair activities. We received information that Savannah Rogers and Nikki Truhett rode their horses and competed in the fair Gymkhana and did very well in their events. We heard that both young people spent last week showing their swine.

Members of the Oakdale Garden Club are the first group to answer the request by members of the Valley Home Community Center Board of Directors, for help in planting trees at the new Valley Home Community Park. Following a discussion of what type of tree to plant, member, Rosalie Osman made a motion for members to plant four types of Oak trees, which would include the local native Oak. The temperature this last week in our community has been warm, especially the first part of the week up to news submission time. The report given to us was at least six days over 100 degrees. We know that this is the San Joaquin Valley and this is July and put those two together and what you get is hot weather but we have been spoiled a bit in early July with a small reduction in the heat. We can wish for it to return but be prepared no matter what direction it goes.
