Our Valley Home area was host to one of the most beautiful almond blossom displays we have enjoyed for several years. Those trees on Pioneer Avenue near Highway 120 were exceptionally pretty and seemed to last the longest.

We are starting this week's column off with an exciting news item that arrived too late to include in last week's column. This news was sent to us by proud parents, Synthia and Dennis Jones. "The Salisbury, North Carolina Davis & Elkins softball team opened the 2011 season in strong fashion Friday afternoon, February 23rd, as they defeated Winston-Salem State University 11-3 in the Catawba College Tournament." Valley Home residents will enjoy a busy fun filled week, beginning with our Red Hat 'Fun Lovin' Ladies. Our Red Hatters enjoy selecting a different restaurant each month to visit and enjoy lunch while attending to club business and formulating plans for various projects and activities. Wednesday of this week finds our ladies sampling delicious Italian cuisine at the Olive Garden Restaurant in Modesto. We are delighted to share this news flash about Alanna Jones who is attending Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, West Virginia. Alanna is majoring in Exercise Science and we have just received the news that she has been named to the Fall 2010 Dean's List. Students on the Davis & Elkins Dean List must earn a 3.6 GPA on a 4.0 scale while taking a minimum of 12 semester hours. Valley Home 4-H Club members are beginning to get back in action after winter vacation. Club reporter Garret Bryhni shares the following information with us. Valley Home 4-H would like to say thanks to Christina Barreto and 'Pat from Ripon'. Pat answered Christina's ad on Craig's List and very generously donated two Singer Genie sewing machines to the club. This allowed Christina to become our new Sewing Project Leader.

We are happy to share the latest information on Valley Home 4-H activities. Let's give Christina Berreto and Rosie Campbell and their bake sale committee members a big thank you! They raised $146.50 at their November 13th bake sale and $294.00 at their December 11 bake sale. Special plaudits also to everyone who donated items to be sold! Sounds like everyone did a super job!

Exciting events coming to Valley Home next week! On Tuesday, August 5th, the fine citizens of Valley Home will meet at the park to celebrate living in this beautiful place called Valley Home! This week we highlight a very important person who is active in both Valley Home and Escalon. This young man is Bryce McKenzie! Bryce attends Valley Home School and is a very busy guy. Here in Valley Home we love to celebrate the good in life! Recently one of our favorite Valley Home families reached a big milestone. Jeff and Sally Chrisman celebrated 23 years of marriage on June 15th, which was also Father's Day this year. The joy of summertime memories...it was another special June visit for lifelong friends Taylor Denman and Jenna Heaton! It always amazes me, the bond these two friends share. As a child growing up in Valley Home, those around Melinda Koppinger knew that she was a talented athlete!
