This week we would like to acknowledge the hard work of our Valley Home School basketball coaches. Bonnie Gellerman and Tom Cassinetto both give up many hours to teach and coach our students the game of basketball. Valley Home students fondly call them Ms. Bonnie and Mr. Tom. The students are so fortunate to have these two wonderful people as their mentors! Ms. Bonnie and Mr. Tom are highly respected and greatly appreciated by students and parents alike. A very special place – our Valley Home Community Park! Thank you to those of you who have volunteered to help with mowing our community park. In past columns I have shared that we need more help with mowing. I truly believe the old saying "Many hands make light work!" There can never be too much help. Our little park belongs to each of us and as such, anything we can each do to take care of our park will preserve its beauty for years to come. Perhaps you have noticed a piece of trash and stopped to pick it up ...

Remembering to appreciate! It sounds really funny to say "I need to remember to appreciate," but yet I find myself saying that very phrase over and over again. With the New Year upon us, many of us are trying to make positive changes in our daily lives. For some it is a desire for good health we are striving for. For others it is financial success or maybe it is a happy relationship. No matter what it is, what we wish for can start with appreciation of our day! Appreciation of our day makes it almost impossible to be worried ...

It is with much sadness and sorrow that we speak of the passing of Ty Jones. The world has lost a tremendous young man. Ty was so vibrant, so loving and caring. Ty was just nineteen when he was called home on December 18th. He leaves his heartbroken family and a multitude of devoted friends to cherish his memory. Although only on this earth for a short time, Ty's legacy and laughter will live on in all those who loved him so much. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ty's family and friends at this very sad time.

With Thanksgiving just a day a way may we each take the time to offer a prayer of thanksgiving and well-being for the men and women who are away from home this holiday serving our country. We are thankful to our veterans, who have served our country both here and abroad, throughout the years! They have led the way for the many dedicated young people who have made the choice to serve our country. Today, in this column, it is my great honor to say thank you to two very special young women. Our Valley Home School parade on Halloween Day was a huge success! A very special "Thank You" goes out to Stanislaus Consolidated firefighters, Dan Cummins, Dustin Andersen, and Dan Lopes. Sheriff CSO Melissa Hardy, Sheriff Deputy Barry Ballance, and K-9 Officer Lycan passed out goodies to a long line of happy students. It was wonderful having them here in Valley Home. Every resident in our Valley Home, Knights Ferry, Oakdale and surrounding area, please be sure to stay updated on the issues surrounding the dismissal of our Fire Chief Rick Weigele. A few years ago our Oakdale Rural Fire District became part of the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District. At the time the thought was that combining resources and sharing one Chief would be much better economically for our fire district. This past week after two separate hastily called special board meetings SCFPD dismissed our Fire Chief. We all need to be aware of very important issues within our Fire District ...
