Lynn and Barbara Burroughs have returned from Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas where they watched their son, Rhett, graduate from General and Staff College. He is now officially Major Burroughs! Speaker for the graduation was the Joint Chief of Staff General Dempsey. Major Burroughs and his wife Justine (and baby boy to be) will be stationed in Ft. Carson, Colorado. They have some time off before reporting and will be home to visit.
Congratulations go out to Austin Curtis (Knights Ferry School graduate) on his graduation from the University of Santa Cruz Merrill College with a Bachelor of Arts in History. Way to go Austin!
The Knights Ferry Municipal Advisory Committee (MAC) meets this Thursday, June 23rd at the clubhouse at 7:00p.m. Please attend, as a person from Velociter Wireless will be at the meeting to tell about their service for high-speed Internet connection. The company will be interested in how many Knights Ferry people are interested. Also another item on the agenda is our Post Office and the possibility of Oakdale closing this contract station. Knights Ferry has had a Post Office since 1853 (before Oakdale) and this meeting is VERY important!
Knights Ferry School students who made the year Honor Roll went on a trip to Silver Spur Ranch in Tuolumne. They enjoyed the pool, water slide, fun and games. At the Community Club meeting, the members were informed that someone had broken into the storage room and the liquor cabinet. There will be a surveillance camera put up. The dusk to dawn light in the plaza has finally been installed and lights up the parking lot. The Community Clubhouse can be rented for receptions etc. and there is an ad in the phone book. The next meeting is the July picnic at the park. A community yard sale was discussed and everyone seemed in favor of having it in October. All enjoyed the desserts.
Welcome to the world Jay Wyatt Shearer. Wyatt was born May 24th and weighed in at 8 pounds one ounce and was 20 ¾ inches long. Proud parents are Jeff and Lisa and Proud Knights Ferry Grandparents and Lee and Mary Sue Shearer.

Congratulations go out to Meghan Caron, Knights Ferry School Sixth Grader, on her First Place award in the Aileen Jaffa Young Poets Contest. Her winning poem was titled "Scout, Sniff, POUNCE". She also received an Honorable Mention for her poem "She Glided, She Leaped, She Landed" and her sister Ashley Caron, Eighth Grade at KFS, took an Honorable mention for her poem "My Dream." Amy Simons and daughter Elissa spent their Easter vacation in France. Elissa had always wanted to go there and the time was right. They spent time in Paris doing all the "tourist" things, went to Rouen where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake, went to the beaches of Normandy where the cemetery has 9000 soldiers buried and France turned it over to the United States. They also went to Mont. St. Michel and toured the Loire Valley where they saw many Chateaus. It was a wonderful trip.
The gathering at the Frymire cross for Easter Sunrise service did not get to see the sun rise because of the cloud cover but that didn't dampen their spirits. Pastor Tanis led the assembled in song and worship. Afterwards all enjoyed good food and fellowship.

There was a very large turnout for the Feast put on by the Junior High students of Knights Ferry School. The tables were decorated with fall leaf placemats and turkeys and fall trees made of paper bags. Kaeli Sweet and Rilyn Cassaretto liked decorating the tables. Destiny Machado enjoyed preparing the food. Brandi Cardey liked the cooking of the food. Mikali Willis helped Mrs. Brockman organize the dinner. Eden Cassinetto liked decorating with the placemats. Knights Ferry Community Club Christmas dinner is Thursday, Dec. 4th at 6:00 p.m. at the clubhouse. The Oakdale High School Choir will perform again this year. Attendees are asked to bring: A-M- salads and sides and N-Z desserts and sides. The club will furnish ham, turkey, potatoes and gravy. This is always a great way to start the Christmas season!

The 51st annual Pumpkin Roll was sunny after a foggy start. It was fun to see people that used to live in the Ferry bring their children to experience rolling a pumpkin down the street. Winners in each category received a trophy. In the Boys 0-5 years the winner was Ryan Mayer and the Girls 0-5 winner was Rita Taylor with a roll 1 foot, 1 inch from the line. This Friday, October 31st, will be the annual parade of Knights Ferry children going trick-or-treating on Main Street. It will start at 12:15 with the children coming down to Main Street in their costumes. Many folks gather to hand out candy and see the costumes. It is a fun time!
Lisa and Fred Dolling have returned from Las Vegas where they visited with Fred's son, Justin and his wife Sarah and the grandchildren. They had a good time except for the return trip - eight-hour delay at the airport!
