Knights Ferry School held its Renaissance assembly for the first quarter. Those students with a 4.0 GPA were Wyatt Dickens, Sam Fletcher Paris Thompson, Meghan Caron, Sage Heckinger, Sophie Jones and Ashley Caron. Knights Ferry News for October 27, 2010

Knights Ferry School Kindergartener Alexa Boyajian took her class to her Grandma Laura's house on Orange Blossom for an October outing. They all got to pick up sacks of almonds, picked out a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch, (thanks Save Mart for the supplemental pumpkins) fed the goats, played on the trampoline and teeter-totter, ate chili and cornbread and got a goodie bag. Grace Harden liked petting the goats. River McCarthy liked getting her pumpkin. Alek Barton liked feeding the goats. Troy Peterson (siblings were along also) liked picking up the almonds. The children had a lot of fun!

At the Knights Ferry School Board meeting, Lynn McPeak, Response to Intervention Coordinator, was the speaker. She ran the Monday, Oct 18th workshop for the teachers. They will be implementing a program to bring up the scores of the students that are not meeting their goals. Also the board changed Graduation to Wednesday, June 1st and the November meeting to the 9th. Lori Lubeck from the Parent Teacher Club reported on the Jog-a-Thon.

At the MAC meeting, California Highway Patrol Officer Palazuelos introduced Officer Holly Fetcher who will be attending area MAC meetings. He reported that there is no Caltrans work being done until the budget passes. Margarita from Parks and Recreation said the dying redwood in the plaza is on the to-be-removed list. The redwoods in the valley are slowly dying because of our climate. Redwoods thrive in moist climates, (think foggy coast). The budget cuts have affected Parks and Recreation also. Last Thursday at midnight Michel and Gordon Griesner shot a rattlesnake with 5 rattles. The dog woke them up by barking at the snake. The next day there was a rattlesnake on the driveway and it too was dispatched! They are on the move looking for a place to hole up for the winter.

The snake is found! The loose Boa Constrictor was found at the home of Betty Rogers after wandering around for a week. Her grandson Zachary almost stepped on it! Word is the snake will no longer be living in Knights Ferry.

At the Knights Ferry Community Club meeting last Thursday, Oakdale Rural Fire Chief Lee Winton was the speaker. In his first year on the job, Chief Lee found the budget most challenging to work with. The department is gathering new volunteers and has a new rescue boat donated by the Oakdale Irrigation District. It will be stationed in Knights Ferry. Chief Winton told how the new ...

At the MAC meeting last Thursday, Heather Wright, representing the U.S, Army Corp Parks, introduced the new Park Manager, Duane Johnson. They discussed the contract with the Sheriff Department and that the extra Deputy is on duty Fridays through Sundays, holidays and at sporadic times. The problem of noxious weeds in the park was discussed. Mr. Martine from the Fish and Wildlife Lancaster Road Project explained what was happening with that project to restore the area for salmon. Hannah Holland and mom Megan Peterson have returned from Moline, Illinois where Hannah's fast pitch softball team played in the Nationals. Megan said the weather was crazy, thunderstorms, rain, humidity and good weather. Her team (California Breeze) won two and lost two with 151 teams playing for the championship. Hannah would like to thank the community for its support.

Tom and Denise Crom's "Barn" in Escalon has a lot of stone fruit in and it is ripe and juicy for your eating pleasure. Their heirloom tomatoes are slow in ripening but they have over 100 plants! They are planning a vinegar tasting in the future. Stop by and check out the produce.

Knights Ferry News- 2-25-15

A great big "Thank You!" from the Boyers to the Knights Ferry lawn ferries. Jim came home from the hospital and Diane and Jim were surprised to find their lawn had been mowed and things weed-eated and trimmed. Seems Martha Harding and helpers from the 50's Roadhouse went to work on the Boyer yard since Jim could not do it. It is nice to have such good friends!

Someone removed part of our fence between properties and compromised our security system. They mowed the berries and cut some branches off our shrubs. Yesterday some people were on the property next door and it looked like they were going to fence it. If you remove a fence shouldn't you contact the other property owner?

The skunks are coming out looking for mates and some are ending up as road kill. The recipe for de-skunking your dog is one quart of hydrogen peroxide, 1/3-cup baking soda and 1 tablespoon of liquid soap. With a cloth, wash it into the fur and leave for a few minutes then wash off. This needs to be done within four hours of skunking. I keep the ingredients on hand always!

Knights Ferry was saddened to learn of the death of Glenda Maisel last Wednesday. Glenda and Rick ran the General Store for many years. Glenda ran her Back Door Deli and her Taco Soup will be missed! She was memorialized with a candlelight vigil at the Deli. Her husband Rick, parents Glen and Virginia Langum, and sisters Donna and Debbie and brother Gary survive Glenda. Her Memorial Service will be Thursday, January 29th at 10:00 at the Trinity Church in Escalon. Rest in Peace Glenda.

The Knights Ferry School Board meeting was done in record time! The action items that passed were the Audit Report, School Accountability Report Card, Confidential Employee Salary Schedule and the Classified Employee Salary Schedule. Under reports and announcements the March Auction and Dinner is the 28th of March, the staff is working on the Website and the regular February meeting will be February 12, 2015 at 3:30 p.m. with Stanislaus County Superintendent of Schools Tom Changnon in attendance. Knights Ferry Garden Club has picked the winners of the Smokey Bear contest. The winners all received prizes and their posters will now go on to be judged at the State level. First Grade Winners are: First-Holly Conde, Second-Charlee Birdsong, and Third-Maddie Dickens. Second Grade winners are; First-David Kouassi, Second-Kyla Ryan, and Third-Lily Sturtevant. Third Grade winners are: First-Madison Watson, Second-Gracie Anderson, and Third-Austin Sherley. Fourth Grade winners are: First-Grace Hardin, Second-Deagan Sweet, and Third-River McCarthy.
