Knights Ferry School started the new year with 87 students. Things are moving fast. The 6th Graders will be going to Outdoor Education on September 29-Oct. 3rd. Back to School Night will be Thursday, August 28th with each teacher giving a 25 minute presentation in their classrooms, starting with Kindergarten at 5:30 p.m. then progressing through the grades. The teachers will present their daily routines, rules and information on Common Core. The Knights Ferry School Band will begin September 2nd. Kaeli Sweet flew to Virginia Beach, Virginia, to visit her Uncle Adam and Aunt Tiffany. Hurricane Arthur, the first named storm of the season, went up the Atlantic seaboard also. We have to wait until Kaeli is home to find out how that experience was.

Stanislaus of Public Works has CHANGED THE DATES of the slurry seal on the town's streets. New dates are July 7-8-9. The streets are to be sealed in the order as before, Monday-Dent past Vantine and Vantine and Main Street. Tuesday-Lynde, Shurl, Dean and the rest of Dent, Wednesday-Ellen and by the Plaza to Cemetery road. No cars or pedestrians are to be on the sealing job for two hours afterwards. Plan your day accordingly.

At the MAC meeting to be held Thursday, June 26th, the slurry seal of all the streets in the Ferry will be discussed. The meeting is at 7:00 p.m. at the clubhouse. The sealing of the streets will be July 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. There will be no cars or pedestrians allowed on the seal for two hours. The first streets to be done are Dent past Vantine and Vantine and Main Street on the 1st. The next day will be Lynde, Shurl, Dean and the rest of Dent. Knights Ferry School held its Graduation on June 3rd on the front of the school overlooking the river valley and town. Charlee Birdsong rang the bell to start the program. The eighth Graders processed in and then Kaeli Sweet led the Flag salute and Alyssa Sisco led the "Star Spangled Banner". Speaker for the evening was Natalie Brockman, Paraprofessional and Band/ Music instructor. The sun rose through the pink tinted wispy clouds Easter Sunday to shine on the faithful assembled on Frymire Hill. Pastor Tanis, with his daughter and grandson, told of the appearance of his angel wife Sara Jean (mom, grandmother). She appeared to the grandson and daughter after the grandson was having trouble sleeping after Sara Jean's death and the angel appeared and told him it was time for him to sleep in his own bed and led him there. At Public School's Night, the Masons announced the winners of the essay contest. The students wrote on why the Masons were involved in Public Schools. First Place winners received a check for $50.00. They were 6th grade- Braden Sousa, 7th grade- Alyssa Sisco and 8th grade- Julia Nilsson. Second Place winners received a check for $25.00. Your reporter went out to the backyard to see what the cat was looking at in the iris clump. As I got closer I heard the rattle then saw the rattlesnake. I shooed the cat away, got the dogs in the house, yelled SNAKE-SNAKE to Lee and grabbed a shovel, all in about 10 seconds! I jumped up in the flowerbed and pinned the snake between the iris rhizomes and the railroad tie. Lee arrived as I severed the snake into three parts! It had three buttons. Knights Ferry News Week of August 27, 2014

Knights Ferry School got off to an interesting start - two days without school because of the water main break in town. The pipe was by the new bridge and the Community Service District helped dig up the pipe and replace it. County health officials put a boil your tap water before drinking in place for two days. All the town restaurants had to close until the water passed the health department's tests. By Friday all was back to normal.

There is a new sign up on the highway, a gateway sign for Knights Ferry. It points to the town and tells that there is food and recreation there. Sponsors for the sign so far are: River's Edge, 50's Roadhouse, River Journey, Knights Ferry History and Museum Associates and the Ice Cream and Sweets Shop. It looks really nice.
