There is a missing African Gray parrot flying around in this area. A couple from the Bay Area were camping at the Horseshoe Recreation area on Orange Blossom Road and the parrot escaped. They stayed a few days to try and find it but no luck. It is 12 inches tall, gray with a red tail. The parrot talks and imitates kitchen appliances. His name is Bird. Call your reporter at 881-3314 if you see or hear it.
Welcome to the world Rose Catherine Murray, born July 8th to Troy and Natalie. Proud Knights Ferry grandparents are Cathy and Joe Murray. Rose joins big sister Ella at home.
Alisen Payette and her sons Huxley (7) and Roland (4) were visiting the Oakdale area family and friends. Huxley carried on a family tradition by attending Camp Jack Hazard where his mother spent many a happy summer. With camping, waterslides, visits to Columbia and Santa Cruz as well as Kim McCarthy's Art Camp, the month went by quickly. They reconnected with family and sharing memories of growing up in her "home town" with her boys made this a special visit to California from Missouri. Alison is teaching 5th and 6th grades and loving it. Thanks to the wonderful teachers ...
Five-year-old Tristan McCarthy was float-fishing down the Stanislaus River when he caught a fish, a really big fish. It was a 10-pound Striper! His first catch and was he proud and that is no fish story!
Knights Ferry News by Mary Sue Shearer Here is the June 26, 2013 column that evidently got lost in cyberspace.
The movie night was well attended, with the smell of popcorn wafting over the group. The movie was "Up" and all enjoyed it, young and old. Dave and Heather Voortman's set-up was perfect, good sight and sound. The weather was perfect for a night outside. They are working on what the next movie will be.

The weather was beautiful for a fight - a reenactment of a Civil War battle that is - on Saturday and Sunday. There were many tents at the Army Corp Park and many soldiers of the Blue and Gray that battled it out on the hills. The spaghetti dinner was good and many enjoyed winning the great raffle prizes. The town was quite busy!

This has been another beautiful week in the Ferry but we need the rain! Even the weeds are getting limp!
Breakfast Sunday dawned bright and clear with the daffodils and redbud trees blooming and the almond trees that were past their prime greening up and those just coming into bloom were puffs of pink. The sandhill cranes were heading north from their wintering spots, whirling in their large groups and making a funny call. The sporadic rain that we got helped the grass to grow (also the weeds).
A great big "Thank You!" from the Boyers to the Knights Ferry lawn ferries. Jim came home from the hospital and Diane and Jim were surprised to find their lawn had been mowed and things weed-eated and trimmed. Seems Martha Harding and helpers from the 50's Roadhouse went to work on the Boyer yard since Jim could not do it. It is nice to have such good friends!
Someone removed part of our fence between properties and compromised our security system. They mowed the berries and cut some branches off our shrubs. Yesterday some people were on the property next door and it looked like they were going to fence it. If you remove a fence shouldn't you contact the other property owner?
