At the Knights Ferry Community Club meeting a note from former member Maize Brown was read thanking the club for the sendoff cake and card and she missed all – but not enough to come back! The Car Show was discussed with a tentative date of April 4th of next year.

When your reporter started writing the Knights Ferry News in August of 1999, it had to be typed (on a typewriter) on 8 by 6 inch newsprint supplied by the Leader and put through the mail slot on Sunday evenings. Now it is all computerized and so much easier!
There is a new sign up on the highway, a gateway sign for Knights Ferry. It points to the town and tells that there is food and recreation there. Sponsors for the sign so far are: River's Edge, 50's Roadhouse, River Journey, Knights Ferry History and Museum Associates and the Ice Cream and Sweets Shop. It looks really nice.
The streets of Knights Ferry look good after the slurry seal. As of Saturday the lines had not yet been repainted.
Kaeli Sweet flew to Virginia Beach, Virginia, to visit her Uncle Adam and Aunt Tiffany. Hurricane Arthur, the first named storm of the season, went up the Atlantic seaboard also. We have to wait until Kaeli is home to find out how that experience was.
Stanislaus of Public Works has CHANGED THE DATES of the slurry seal on the town's streets. New dates are July 7-8-9. The streets are to be sealed in the order as before, Monday-Dent past Vantine and Vantine and Main Street. Tuesday-Lynde, Shurl, Dean and the rest of Dent, Wednesday-Ellen and by the Plaza to Cemetery road. No cars or pedestrians are to be on the sealing job for two hours afterwards. Plan your day accordingly.
At the MAC meeting to be held Thursday, June 26th, the slurry seal of all the streets in the Ferry will be discussed. The meeting is at 7:00 p.m. at the clubhouse. The sealing of the streets will be July 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. There will be no cars or pedestrians allowed on the seal for two hours. The first streets to be done are Dent past Vantine and Vantine and Main Street on the 1st. The next day will be Lynde, Shurl, Dean and the rest of Dent. Knights Ferry School held its Graduation on June 3rd on the front of the school overlooking the river valley and town. Charlee Birdsong rang the bell to start the program. The eighth Graders processed in and then Kaeli Sweet led the Flag salute and Alyssa Sisco led the "Star Spangled Banner". Speaker for the evening was Natalie Brockman, Paraprofessional and Band/ Music instructor. Graduates were Mario Aries, Jose Garcia, Sergio Garcia, Aleesha harden, Clay Heffington, Lindsey Largent, Alondra Machado, Julia Nilsson, Ray Patton, Jordan Proch, Kylee Sisco, Julian Velasquez and Megan Willis.
Don't forget Thursday, June 5th is the Community Club dinner meeting at 6:30 at the clubhouse.

Knights Ferry was saddened to learn of the death of Glenda Maisel last Wednesday. Glenda and Rick ran the General Store for many years. Glenda ran her Back Door Deli and her Taco Soup will be missed! She was memorialized with a candlelight vigil at the Deli. Her husband Rick, parents Glen and Virginia Langum, and sisters Donna and Debbie and brother Gary survive Glenda. Her Memorial Service will be Thursday, January 29th at 10:00 at the Trinity Church in Escalon. Rest in Peace Glenda.
The Knights Ferry School Board meeting was done in record time! The action items that passed were the Audit Report, School Accountability Report Card, Confidential Employee Salary Schedule and the Classified Employee Salary Schedule. Under reports and announcements the March Auction and Dinner is the 28th of March, the staff is working on the Website and the regular February meeting will be February 12, 2015 at 3:30 p.m. with Stanislaus County Superintendent of Schools Tom Changnon in attendance. Knights Ferry Garden Club has picked the winners of the Smokey Bear contest. The winners all received prizes and their posters will now go on to be judged at the State level. First Grade Winners are: First-Holly Conde, Second-Charlee Birdsong, and Third-Maddie Dickens. Second Grade winners are; First-David Kouassi, Second-Kyla Ryan, and Third-Lily Sturtevant. Third Grade winners are: First-Madison Watson, Second-Gracie Anderson, and Third-Austin Sherley. Fourth Grade winners are: First-Grace Hardin, Second-Deagan Sweet, and Third-River McCarthy. There were a lot of people in attendance at the Oakdale Rural Fire Board meeting. The board cleared up the rumor that the Knights Ferry station was being sold, it is not. The survey was commissioned because the LaDonne family said the station was over on their property. No sales were planned in the future. The historical structures in the Ferry were discussed, as they are wooden structures. The Fire Board said all such buildings should be alarmed and monitored for quick response. There was a very large turnout for the Feast put on by the Junior High students of Knights Ferry School. The tables were decorated with fall leaf placemats and turkeys and fall trees made of paper bags. Kaeli Sweet and Rilyn Cassaretto liked decorating the tables. Destiny Machado enjoyed preparing the food. Brandi Cardey liked the cooking of the food. Mikali Willis helped Mrs. Brockman organize the dinner. Eden Cassinetto liked decorating with the placemats.
