At the MAC meeting, California Highway Patrol Officer Palazuelos introduced Officer Holly Fetcher who will be attending area MAC meetings. He reported that there is no Caltrans work being done until the budget passes. Margarita from Parks and Recreation said the dying redwood in the plaza is on the to-be-removed list. The redwoods in the valley are slowly dying because of our climate. Redwoods thrive in moist climates, (think foggy coast). The budget cuts have affected Parks and Recreation also. Last Thursday at midnight Michel and Gordon Griesner shot a rattlesnake with 5 rattles. The dog woke them up by barking at the snake. The next day there was a rattlesnake on the driveway and it too was dispatched! They are on the move looking for a place to hole up for the winter.

The snake is found! The loose Boa Constrictor was found at the home of Betty Rogers after wandering around for a week. Her grandson Zachary almost stepped on it! Word is the snake will no longer be living in Knights Ferry.

At the Knights Ferry Community Club meeting last Thursday, Oakdale Rural Fire Chief Lee Winton was the speaker. In his first year on the job, Chief Lee found the budget most challenging to work with. At the MAC meeting last Thursday, Heather Wright, representing the U.S, Army Corp Parks, introduced the new Park Manager, Duane Johnson. They discussed the contract with the Sheriff Department and that the extra Deputy is on duty Fridays through Sundays, holidays and at sporadic times. The problem of noxious weeds in the park was discussed. Mr. Martine from the Fish and Wildlife Lancaster Road Project explained what was happening with that project to restore the area for salmon. Hannah Holland and mom Megan Peterson have returned from Moline, Illinois where Hannah's fast pitch softball team played in the Nationals. Megan said the weather was crazy, thunderstorms, rain, humidity and good weather. Her team (California Breeze) won two and lost two with 151 teams playing for the championship. Hannah would like to thank the community for its support.

Tom and Denise Crom's "Barn" in Escalon has a lot of stone fruit in and it is ripe and juicy for your eating pleasure. Their heirloom tomatoes are slow in ripening but they have over 100 plants! They are planning a vinegar tasting in the future. Stop by and check out the produce.

There has been vandalism in the Ferry. The school and church have had minor incidences such as being on the new school roof and turning off the air conditioner. The latest wasn't minor, the water was turned off at the school in the shed that houses the OID pump and Lynn Duckworth worked overtime trying to find where the problem was and then called the plumber and he discovered the break-in to the shed and the switch thrown to off. This caused a big bill and the school is already close to deficit spending. Please keep your eyes open ...

Alex and Jean Naccarato have returned from their grandson Wyatt Naccarato's Eighth Grade Graduation. It was held in Tres Pinos in the middle of a grape vineyard. Jean said the setting was gorgeous. After the graduation there was a dinner and dance for all. Wyatt received awards for Best Athlete, Math, and Honor Roll. He will be going to San Benito High School.

Here it is another month already! There are a lot of things happening in the Ferry this month. April 2nd is the Knights Ferry Community Club dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the clubhouse. April 4th is the Car Show with over 160 cars entered. The cars will all be around town, none on the other side of the river. There will be live entertainment, food, and T-shirts available. April 5th is Easter with sunrise services at the cross on Frymire's hill. April 8th the Garden Club is meeting at the cemetery at 10:00 a.m ...

The weather was beautiful for a fight - a reenactment of a Civil War battle that is - on Saturday and Sunday. There were many tents at the Army Corp Park and many soldiers of the Blue and Gray that battled it out on the hills. The spaghetti dinner was good and many enjoyed winning the great raffle prizes. The town was quite busy!

Breakfast Sunday dawned bright and clear with the daffodils and redbud trees blooming and the almond trees that were past their prime greening up and those just coming into bloom were puffs of pink. The sandhill cranes were heading north from their wintering spots, whirling in their large groups and making a funny call. The sporadic rain that we got helped the grass to grow (also the weeds).

A great big "Thank You!" from the Boyers to the Knights Ferry lawn ferries. Jim came home from the hospital and Diane and Jim were surprised to find their lawn had been mowed and things weed-eated and trimmed. Seems Martha Harding and helpers from the 50's Roadhouse went to work on the Boyer yard since Jim could not do it. It is nice to have such good friends!

Someone removed part of our fence between properties and compromised our security system. They mowed the berries and cut some branches off our shrubs. Yesterday some people were on the property next door and it looked like they were going to fence it. If you remove a fence shouldn't you contact the other property owner?
