The Sandhill Cranes are flying north in impressive numbers. Spring is coming! Also the town is carpeted in violets, remnants of the open water system that provided the town with water. The reservoir was where the upper blacktop area is at the school. It was open and violet seeds spread through town.

Your reporter went out to the backyard to see what the cat was looking at in the iris clump. As I got closer I heard the rattle then saw the rattlesnake. I shooed the cat away, got the dogs in the house, yelled SNAKE-SNAKE to Lee and grabbed a shovel, all in about 10 seconds! I jumped up in the flowerbed and pinned the snake between the iris rhizomes and the railroad tie. Lee arrived as I severed the snake into three parts! It had three buttons. I wonder if it was the same snake that was out front? Are ...

Knights Ferry School got off to an interesting start - two days without school because of the water main break in town. The pipe was by the new bridge and the Community Service District helped dig up the pipe and replace it. County health officials put a boil your tap water before drinking in place for two days. All the town restaurants had to close until the water passed the health department's tests. By Friday all was back to normal.
At the Knights Ferry Community Club meeting a note from former member Maize Brown was read thanking the club for the sendoff cake and card and she missed all – but not enough to come back! The Car Show was discussed with a tentative date of April 4th of next year.

When your reporter started writing the Knights Ferry News in August of 1999, it had to be typed (on a typewriter) on 8 by 6 inch newsprint supplied by the Leader and put through the mail slot on Sunday evenings. Now it is all computerized and so much easier!
There is a new sign up on the highway, a gateway sign for Knights Ferry. It points to the town and tells that there is food and recreation there. Sponsors for the sign so far are: River's Edge, 50's Roadhouse, River Journey, Knights Ferry History and Museum Associates and the Ice Cream and Sweets Shop. It looks really nice.
