At the MAC meeting last Thursday Christie Dowd from the Stanislaus County Planning Department presented the tentative parcel division of the Thompsons. They want to divide 932 acres into 24 forty-acre parcels behind Horseshoe Road. Approximately 750 acres are now planted in almonds. The project proposes access to the property through a publicly maintained 30-foot wide easement off Horseshoe and they need a secondary access, proposed to Rodden Road. Two access roads are needed before anything can be done. Christine also presented the MAC with a letter from Nick Honchariw complaining about the Historical District's 5-acre minimum parcel plan ...

Knights Ferry News Week of October 23, 2013

Movie night was a preview of Halloween. Children and adults came in costume to enjoy the treats, the movie "Hocus Pocus" and popcorn. There were many great costumes including two who were covered head to toe in a spandex type multi colored outfit. Don't know who they were! It was a fun night in the clubhouse.

The teachers of the combination classes had the choice of two students, not necessarily one from each grade.

The Election filing period has ended and Knights Ferry School District has five candidates running for three board seats, incumbents Robert Brunker and Kym Cassaretto along with Sean McCarthy, Shavon Haskell and Diane Noon. The Municipal Advisory council has three openings with two candidates running unopposed for the two full term seats, Dolly Haskell and Brendt Noon. Cliff Howse is appointed for the short-term seat. For the Knights Ferry Community Service District two are running unopposed for three seats, Erich Ulrich and Brendt Noon, Jr.

There is a missing African Gray parrot flying around in this area. A couple from the Bay Area were camping at the Horseshoe Recreation area on Orange Blossom Road and the parrot escaped. They stayed a few days to try and find it but no luck. It is 12 inches tall, gray with a red tail. The parrot talks and imitates kitchen appliances. His name is Bird. Call your reporter at 881-3314 if you see or hear it.

Alisen Payette and her sons Huxley (7) and Roland (4) were visiting the Oakdale area family and friends. Huxley carried on a family tradition by attending Camp Jack Hazard where his mother spent many a happy summer. With camping, waterslides, visits to Columbia and Santa Cruz as well as Kim McCarthy's Art Camp, the month went by quickly. They reconnected with family and sharing memories of growing up in her "home town" with her boys made this a special visit to California from Missouri. There is a new sign up on the highway, a gateway sign for Knights Ferry. It points to the town and tells that there is food and recreation there. Sponsors for the sign so far are: River's Edge, 50's Roadhouse, River Journey, Knights Ferry History and Museum Associates and the Ice Cream and Sweets Shop. It looks really nice.

Kaeli Sweet flew to Virginia Beach, Virginia, to visit her Uncle Adam and Aunt Tiffany. Hurricane Arthur, the first named storm of the season, went up the Atlantic seaboard also. We have to wait until Kaeli is home to find out how that experience was.

Stanislaus of Public Works has CHANGED THE DATES of the slurry seal on the town's streets. New dates are July 7-8-9. The streets are to be sealed in the order as before, Monday-Dent past Vantine and Vantine and Main Street. Tuesday-Lynde, Shurl, Dean and the rest of Dent, Wednesday-Ellen and by the Plaza to Cemetery road. No cars or pedestrians are to be on the sealing job for two hours afterwards. Plan your day accordingly.

At the MAC meeting to be held Thursday, June 26th, the slurry seal of all the streets in the Ferry will be discussed. The meeting is at 7:00 p.m. at the clubhouse. The sealing of the streets will be July 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. There will be no cars or pedestrians allowed on the seal for two hours. The first streets to be done are Dent past Vantine and Vantine and Main Street on the 1st. The next day will be Lynde, Shurl, Dean and the rest of Dent. Knights Ferry School held its Graduation on June 3rd on the front of the school overlooking the river valley and town. Charlee Birdsong rang the bell to start the program. The eighth Graders processed in and then Kaeli Sweet led the Flag salute and Alyssa Sisco led the "Star Spangled Banner". Speaker for the evening was Natalie Brockman, Paraprofessional and Band/ Music instructor. Graduates were Mario Aries, Jose Garcia, Sergio Garcia, Aleesha harden, Clay Heffington, Lindsey Largent, Alondra Machado, Julia Nilsson, Ray Patton, Jordan Proch, Kylee Sisco, Julian Velasquez and Megan Willis.
