Rattlesnake alert: Michel and Gordon Griesner have killed two young snakes. One was out back in the rose garden and Michel dispatched it and the other was by their front walk and Gordon dispatched that one. Kathy Shuper caught one in a glue trap she had set out for mice in the washroom and it was alive. She was afraid it would come unglued so she called the 50's Roadhouse and Jewls and her helpers came and took care of it. It too was a young one. The Ohe family's old dog was bit and had to be ...

Knights Ferry lost another long time resident, Jim Porter. His wife, Pat and 7 children, including Mary-Ann Largent of Knights Ferry, 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, survive him. Services were held last Saturday.

There was standing room only at the Oakdale Memorial Chapel last Thursday for the memorial for Patti Ulrich. Burial was at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Knights Ferry. Many co-workers from Hershey's and numerous family members and friends then enjoyed the reception at the River's Edge. She will be missed by Knights Ferry, her home for many years.

Knights Ferry was shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden death of Patti Ulrich, mother of Jason Ulrich, sister of Kathy Mangante and Eric Ulrich. Her services are Thursday, April 15th at 10 a.m. at Oakdale Memorial Chapel, gravesite at Oak Grove Cemetery, Knights Ferry, with reception to follow at the River's Edge. Patti was a long time Knights Ferry resident.

Knights Ferry News for April 7, 2010

At the Knights Ferry Community Club meeting, President Linda Morris announced that 4 new tables were purchased to replace 4 old heavy wooden ones. More will be purchased so people who rent the hall will not have to struggle with the old tables. There was a report on the Spaghetti Dinner, very profitable. It took in enough to pay the insurance. Next meeting is May 6th, a dessert meeting with a speaker to be announced.

At the MAC meeting last Thursday Dolly Haskell was sworn in as the newest member of the Municipal Advisory Council. Tim Morris from the Stanislaus County Department of Public Works told of some roadside spraying they are doing but not much happening in the Knights Ferry area. There was some discussion on the roadway by the U.S. Army Corp property. Margarita Ramos from the County Parks Department explained the park system in the county. She also reported on the removal of the dead tree in the Plaza. The County will repair things in the Plaza and the Knights Ferry ...

The cannons boomed and the North and South fought to the delight of the many onlookers seated on the hillside in the lovely spring weather. The camps of the Union and Confederates were separated by the river and were full of activity during the two days of encampment. The town was full of re-enactors and the public both days. The Community Club's spaghetti dinner was well attended with good food and great raffle prizes. At the last Community Club meeting, new officers were elected. President is Linda Morris, Vice President is Allan Oberst, Secretary is Kim Whittey, and Treasurer is Lisa Dolling. Carol Watson is the new cleaning person. Allan Oberst reported on the inspection by the Fire Department, only a few things need to be fixed. Raffle prizes are being collected for the March 20 Spaghetti Dinner by Gayle Lund and Lisa Dolling. Thursday, March 4th is the Knights Ferry Community Club meeting at 7:00p.m. at the clubhouse. It is a dessert meeting. Valley Home News for February 17, 2010

Valley Home members of the Oakdale Garden Club, Beverly Berridge, and Glenn & Laura Burghardt, joined other members and representatives of the Knights Ferry Garden Club in hosting the Valley Lode District meeting on February 9th. The event was held at the Masonic Center in Oakdale which through the artistic hands of Club members was turned into a tropical paradise for the event which was attended by 91 members of the many clubs which make up the district. Knights Ferry News 3-25-15

The weather was beautiful for a fight - a reenactment of a Civil War battle that is - on Saturday and Sunday. There were many tents at the Army Corp Park and many soldiers of the Blue and Gray that battled it out on the hills. The spaghetti dinner was good and many enjoyed winning the great raffle prizes. The town was quite busy!

Breakfast Sunday dawned bright and clear with the daffodils and redbud trees blooming and the almond trees that were past their prime greening up and those just coming into bloom were puffs of pink. The sandhill cranes were heading north from their wintering spots, whirling in their large groups and making a funny call. The sporadic rain that we got helped the grass to grow (also the weeds).

A great big "Thank You!" from the Boyers to the Knights Ferry lawn ferries. Jim came home from the hospital and Diane and Jim were surprised to find their lawn had been mowed and things weed-eated and trimmed. Seems Martha Harding and helpers from the 50's Roadhouse went to work on the Boyer yard since Jim could not do it. It is nice to have such good friends!

Someone removed part of our fence between properties and compromised our security system. They mowed the berries and cut some branches off our shrubs. Yesterday some people were on the property next door and it looked like they were going to fence it. If you remove a fence shouldn't you contact the other property owner?

The skunks are coming out looking for mates and some are ending up as road kill. The recipe for de-skunking your dog is one quart of hydrogen peroxide, 1/3-cup baking soda and 1 tablespoon of liquid soap. With a cloth, wash it into the fur and leave for a few minutes then wash off. This needs to be done within four hours of skunking. I keep the ingredients on hand always!

Knights Ferry News Week of December 25, 2015

Knights Ferry was saddened to learn of the death of Glenda Maisel last Wednesday. Glenda and Rick ran the General Store for many years. Glenda ran her Back Door Deli and her Taco Soup will be missed! She was memorialized with a candlelight vigil at the Deli. Her husband Rick, parents Glen and Virginia Langum, and sisters Donna and Debbie and brother Gary survive Glenda. Her Memorial Service will be Thursday, January 29th at 10:00 at the Trinity Church in Escalon. Rest in Peace Glenda.
