Congratulations go out to the Knights Ferry School Student of the Month: Kindergarten- Joshua Maceira, 1st and 2nd grades- Jenna O'Neil and Levi Dickens, 3rd and 4th grades- Ben Cassinetto and Dylan Anderson, 5th and 6th grades- Marcada Baker and Braden Sousa, 7th and 8th grades- Alyssa Sisco and Aleesha Harden. They were honored at an assembly. A new award at KFS is for NED-Never give up, Encourage others and Do your best. There have been sightings of a Golden Eagle in the Horseshoe/Orange Blossom road area. The Golden Eagle has a wingspan of 7 feet. It eats rabbits and rodents where the Bald Eagle eats fish. If you can get a close look at the Golden Eagle it has feathers down to its toes and the Bald Eagle's legs are bare. There are more sightings of the Bald Eagle in this area as it eats fish.

At the MAC meeting last Thursday, Ric Feichter was chosen President and Dolly Haskell is Secretary. During Citizen Forum, the Oakdale Rural Fire Department and Rick from Stanislaus Consolidated talked on the possible merger of the two districts. Oakdale City Fire does not want to merge but will contract for services. If they merge it should have more resources available. Consolidated would own all and that raised a question of our local fire station since the town built it and sold it to Oakdale Rural for $1.00. If anything happened the station was to revert back to the town ...

Your reporter was looking out the kitchen window enjoying the morning cup of coffee when something caught my eye in Jim Rotelli's pasture. Thought it was a yellow dog until it turned sideways. It was a mountain lion! It was just ambling along, looking around. The dogs were inside so I put on my slippers but by the time I got outside it was in the berries and gone. Knights Ferry School Board met Thursday at their new time - 5:30 p.m. This early time enables teachers to attend. The Board approved the Audit and the Board Policies. Superintendent Cheryl told of the installation of the public address system over vacation. This was a safety issue. The fiber optics line to the school has been turned on. There will be a mobile computer lab with 25 laptops coming next week so the students can take the tests for Common Core. The Character Assembly was on NED, Never give up-Encourage others-Do your best.

There was a packed clubhouse for the Knights Ferry School's Winter Program. It opened with Julia Nilsson as Mistress of Ceremony and the K-4 students on stage and the 5-6 in the choir area singing "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" followed by "Frosty the Snowman" with Denali Benson as Frosty. Denali's costume was great! After that the Kindergarten and First and Second Grades sang "Mister Santa". Natalie Brockman is the choir director and the band director. Pajama clad children, with blankets and pillows, enjoyed movie night in the Ferry. All the children and some of the parents were in their nightclothes. Hot chocolate and candy cane sticks were slurped and licked as the Muppets provided the entertainment. The theater chairs at the clubhouse for the adults were moved to surround the area full of children. It was an enjoyable night. Your reporter and hubby missed it because granddaughter Claire Krippner was in a basketball tournament playoff. Claire scored 4 baskets out of 5 for the second place trophy in the Lutheran League.

There were a lot of people in attendance at the Oakdale Rural Fire Board meeting. The board cleared up the rumor that the Knights Ferry station was being sold, it is not. The survey was commissioned because the LaDonne family said the station was over on their property. No sales were planned in the future. The historical structures in the Ferry were discussed, as they are wooden structures. The Fire Board said all such buildings should be alarmed and monitored for quick response. There was a very large turnout for the Feast put on by the Junior High students of Knights Ferry School. The tables were decorated with fall leaf placemats and turkeys and fall trees made of paper bags. Kaeli Sweet and Rilyn Cassaretto liked decorating the tables. Knights Ferry Community Club Christmas dinner is Thursday, Dec. 4th at 6:00 p.m. at the clubhouse. The Oakdale High School Choir will perform again this year. Attendees are asked to bring: A-M- salads and sides and N-Z desserts and sides. The club will furnish ham, turkey, potatoes and gravy. This is always a great way to start the Christmas season!

The 51st annual Pumpkin Roll was sunny after a foggy start. It was fun to see people that used to live in the Ferry bring their children to experience rolling a pumpkin down the street. Winners in each category received a trophy. In the Boys 0-5 years the winner was Ryan Mayer and the Girls 0-5 winner was Rita Taylor with a roll 1 foot, 1 inch from the line. This Friday, October 31st, will be the annual parade of Knights Ferry children going trick-or-treating on Main Street. It will start at 12:15 with the children coming down to Main Street in their costumes. Many folks gather to hand out candy and see the costumes. It is a fun time!
