As the year 2009 passed, so did long time Knights Ferrian Walt Taylor. Walt was raised in the Ferry, attending the Knights Ferry School with his three siblings, as did his parents, Bert and Mildred. He was a well-known cattleman, raising Charolais cattle. Walt was a 57 year member of the Knights Ferry I.O.O.F. Lodge, where he served up many a breakfast on the first Sunday of the month. He leaves behind his loving companion Virginia Gibson, sons, Pat, Mike and David and daughter Barbara, 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. His brother, Bob Taylor, survives him. Viewing ...

Christmas Eve there was a large gathering on the outdoor patio of the River's Edge for the Knights Ferry Community Church's Christmas Eve service. The Frymire's lit cross shone down on all. Alex Ray, Jordan Ray, Kylea Coston and Amber Coston played the opening prelude. The church's Choir, directed by Peggy Van Vliet, sang "Emmanuel, Emmanuel." Pastor Leverne Tanis welcomed all and led the opening prayer. The Choir then sang "One Still and Silent Night" and Pastor Tanis spoke on "Your Light Has Come." Knights Ferry News for December 16, 2009

The Ulrich family held their annual Christmas party at the I.O.O.F. Hall last Saturday. There were 4 generations represented, with a lot of children this year. Betty Rogers was the oldest Ulrich in attendance and Paisley Vargas was the youngest. Laura Simons led the children in singing Christmas Carols, accompanied by Rick Starbuck on guitar. Taryn Goehring announced her engagement. Bobby McCoy is in Iraq and was in their prayers. Santa came after dinner and the children received presents from the "jolly old elf." It was a fabulous evening.

The Feast the Knights Ferry School Eighth Graders put on for the community was well attended and the food was terrific. Oskar Nilsson liked cutting the turkey, Kit Foster liked playing while he worked, Peyton Paul liked meeting the people, and Leah Armario liked preparing the food and helping serve the people. Their teacher, Shelli Johnson, thanked her aide, Cheryl Hodge, for helping put it all together and thanks Randy Noe for showing the boys how to carve a turkey. The Main Street in Knights Ferry was lined with parents, friends, grandparents, family and strangers last Friday for the annual costume parade of the KF school children. Younger siblings joined in, as did young town folk. There were some great costumes, including a box of popcorn and a person on an outhouse! Candy was handed out and the children trooped back up the hill to find out the winners of the pumpkin-decorating contest. The world famous Knights Ferry Pumpkin Roll is coming to Main Street on November 1st. This event is always a fun time. The day starts with the I.O.O.F. breakfast, $5 for ham, eggs, pancakes juice and coffee. There will be a craft fair in the clubhouse and on the tennis court (including caramel corn). The Orange Blossom 4-H will have children's games on the tennis court. At the Knights Ferry Community Club meeting, Sheriff Adam Christianson was the speaker. He gave an update on the budget; 10 million dollars were cut from the budget. They have 600 employees in the department and instead of cutting personnel, the department cut costs. The Sheriff helicopter is parked, too costly to run. Adam himself took a pay reduction. Sheriff Christianson discussed the early release of prisoners, not a great thing for the communities. Also on the agenda was the awarding of a scholarship to an Oakdale High School student, and it was decided to raise the donation to $250 ...
