Let The Public Comment

Dear Editor,
I, Bobby E. Goad, was denied to ask three questions by OID President Jack Alpers (Aug. 4, 2009 OID board meeting). Jack Alpers said he would throw me out, after I disagreed with him.
If he had asked me to leave, I would have, but would have found out the legal part later.
I did leave.
If a subject is to be spoken about and Jack Alpers squashes it by not allowing questions and statements by some individuals, the OID board will likely let things pass that would not pass if OID board members knew the whole story ...

An Honest Business

Dear Editor,
I want to thank Oakdale Recycle Center for being so honest the other day. I decided to clean up around the ranch as I do two or three times a year. I gathered up all the recyclable stuff and took it to the Oakdale Recycle Center on my way to Oakdale. While I was checking out to get the money I was having a conversation with the clerk while she was guiding a truck on the scale and adding up my tags. She finally got the truck on the way and gave me my money. A few days ...

Thank You, Oakdale

Dear Editor,
The Oakdale Police Officer's Association would like to thank the citizens of Oakdale for all their support this year as we faced the tough economic times together. We were faced with layoffs (8) that would have seriously affected the safety of you and your family. The Oakdale Police Officer Association chose to take the following concessions in order to preserve the level of safety you deserve.
1) Switching to a new medical insurance provider, which saved approximately 5 percent or $80,000.
2) Agreed to take 12 furlough days saving approximately $102,220.
3) Yearly physical fitness ...

Job Well Done

Dear Editor,
As residents of Knights Ferry, we would like to thank the East Side Mosquito Abatement for the job they have done keeping the mosquitoes to a minimum in our area.
Lloyd Douglas is the manager, Allen Alcock is the airplane pilot, and Richard Amarante is the man on the ground. This is one government agency that is spending your tax money properly.
Just a word of thanks!
Gordon and Michel Griesner

Helping Kids Take Flight

Dear Editor,
I would like to thank the EAA Young Eagles for their free flight day on a recent Saturday. My son, and several of his Cub Scout buddies, were warmly welcomed and taken on flights by caring aviators at the Oakdale airport.
I am very appreciative to this group for their time and expense. They answered lots of questions and even fed us! So when the next free flight day comes, please take the time to go and check it out.

Don’t Cover Handicapped Spaces

Dear Editor,
The longer I live in Oakdale the more disappointed I get. I see the local merchants don't want my business because I keep seeing the disabled parking spaces painted over. I see where the outside businesses are keeping the disabled spaces, but the smaller local businesses are painting them over and not replacing them (last strip mall to do this that I used to visit is on the corner of Oak and 108). Funny but there is also a kidney dialysis center there that would cater to the disabled, and they kept their two spaces, but two ...

A Question Of Need

I am writing in regard to the article appearing in the June 17 edition of The Oakdale Leader, "Pint-sized Pet Cares for Owner." I enjoyed the story about the Escalon family adopting the special little dog Melody from the Oakdale Animal Shelter. How remarkable is this untrained dog? The mother of Melody's family, Michelle, is subject to seizures. This little dog can actually sense before Michele has a seizure and guides her to a safe and comfortable seat, thus keeping her safe from potentially falling and hurting herself. As noted in the article, Michelle also suffers from Parkinson's ...
