Local Performers Race In Stockton

The Spears Southwest Tour thundered into Stockton 99 speedway this past weekend for race No. 7 of the 10-race series season schedule. The Jackson Rancheria 135 event looked to be a very competitive race, with 21 cars qualifying on the short quarter-mile oval and the crowd was not disappointed. Coming into the event, Jacob Gomes, the phenomenal young driver from Manteca (and crowd favorite), held onto a slight lead in the series season points.

Athlete of the Week - Brad McDonald

One of Oakdale's top young mixed martial artists, 'Bad' Brad McDonald added one more tally for the win column during a battle with fight veteran Sergio Quinones at the "Let The Chips Fall" Tachi Fight Palace 10 card in Lemoore earlier this month. With Quinones gunning for his fourth win in six fights, McDonald landed a first round armbar submission three minutes and 36 seconds into the fight. McDonald's career numbers improved to 7-1 with the win, his fifth victory in a row.

Stender, Lee Shine In Junior Olympics Appearance

Some thrilling and aggressive play from Oakdale High girls water polo stars Shelby Stender and Cassie Lee propelled the under-16 Sonora/Oakdale (SOAK) Water Polo Club to a 19th place finish among 36 teams at the recent Swim Outlet Junior Olympics in Orange County.

Racer With Oakdale Roots Making His Mark In Drag Racing

Oakdale has a rich agriculture heritage and is known as the "Cowboy Capital of the World." But, that is not Oakdale's only claim to fame. Oakdale is also a car enthusiast capital, laying claim to some of the best high performance car enthusiasts in northern California. Currently, there are at least eight different racers, living in and around Oakdale, that compete in various forms of racing. Some have spent their early lives in Oakdale, catching the "car bug" and then moving to outlaying areas. One of those is Brian Thiel.
