Last week while reading the fishing report from Lake Pardee, I read that some of the regulars believed that if the cows were lying down in the morning, fishing was going to be tough, if they were standing, the bite was supposed to be good. So, on my way up to the lake I looked for the first cow nearest the lake and to my joy it was standing. I'm not usually one to buy into superstitions but this one I had to test for myself as it was different than any other that I've heard of before ...
If you would have told me 10 years ago that someday I'd be selling my bass boat and buying a multi species boat I would have laughed at you. I did just that though and I'm not looking back. For years now while writing this report, I've often felt a little out of the touch with some of the reports being that I primarily fished for bass. If I caught a trout, catfish, striped bass, or anything else, it was while I was fishing for largemouth bass. That's all changed in the past few years and ...

Growing up, I never used to wear sunglasses. Looking back, I can't believe that I fished as long as I did without sunglasses. It wasn't until I was in my 20's that I realized the benefits of a good pair of sunglasses. I was fishing with a friend one day when he started talking about how great his sunglasses were. When I asked him how much he paid for them, I laughed at him and told him that I would never pay more than $10 for a pair of sunglasses. A couple of months later, he purchased ...
About ten years ago, I started a fishing club at the school where I work. We practiced several times of the week while I taught them how to cast, tie knots, spool their reels, and anything else that I thought they would need to know to get them started. In order to keep them interested, we scheduled a few trips out to some of our local lakes and had little competitions amongst each other to see who was going to catch the first and biggest fish. The club ended up being a huge success but unfortunately after four years my ...

Last week I wrote about taking my dad out fishing for the day. The response I got from that column highlighted what I believe is a growing trend among today's youth. There are far too many of them that have never been fishing. I can understand a kid that is 10 or 12 years old, but there are teens out there that have yet to go fishing. While doing a little research on the Internet, I came across an article where the author challenged his readers to take at least two kids out fishing each year. I really hope ...

I've been putting off changing the bunks on my boat's trailer for several years now. Anyone who owns a boat knows that the boards the boat rests on eventually wear down. Several years ago I made some replacement bunks and have been meaning to swap them out as soon as I had a chance. The biggest problem was that in order to swap out the bunks I needed the boat off the trailer. Yesterday, I was finally able to do just that as I had my 11-year-old son watching my boat while I was swapping out the bunks ...
