The 33rd Annual Nitro Night of Fire event attracted many of the best racers from around the Sacramento area and surrounding counties over the weekend. The counties of Stanislaus, Tuolumne, Merced and San Joaquin were all represented at the event.

With ear buds from his I-pod firmly implanted in each lobe, Oakdale High graduate Boone Whiting was a bit confused when his collegiate summer league Santa Barbara Forrester teammates rose to their feet and began shaking his hand on the bus ride to Compton on Tuesday, June 8.
With spring rains pelting the Northern California Central Valley area throughout the week, it was time for the sun to come out. And come out it did, just in time to allow another great weekend of drag racing at Sacramento Raceway for the annual "Funny Car Fever" event.

The opening of the 52nd Annual March Meet at the famed Famoso Raceway just north of Bakersfield got off to an auspicious start for Oakdale's nostalgia drag racing team and driver Josh Crawford on March 5.

Preparing for his final run at the half pipe in the Freestyle Skiing Junior Olympics in New Hampshire, Oakdale sophomore Neal Cadra got some last minute advice from a coach who told him to go for a trick he had never landed in competition.
Roughly 200 runners took to the streets of Oakdale on Saturday morning for the 2010 Don Osborne Memorial Library Run. Hosted by the Oakdale Lions Club and overseen by the Modesto-based ShadowChase Running Club, the run began near the library at South First Avenue and G Street. Two different races were offered, the one-mile run and the 5K walk/run. Conditions were picture perfect, with cool morning air and some sunshine greeting those on hand for the event, which raises money for the local library and its programs for the community.
Battling back from a disappointing 2-0 loss to San Benito in their opening round game on Saturday, Oakdale's U14 Insanity soccer girls earned a tie and a win on Sunday in first round State Association Cup action.
The summer is off to a sizzling start but it will not be long before the boys of fall take over Oakdale. Like National Football League (NFL) teams, the Oakdale High School varsity football team is currently prepping for the upcoming season. Several members of the Mustang squad headed up to Placer High School recently to participate in a multi-team training camp.
Two of Oakdale's youth softball players are preparing to make a trip to Orlando, Florida to play in the inaugural ESPN Wide World of Sports All American Games July 13 through July 16. Oakdale youngsters Delainey Everett and Kylie Valente were named as members of the Northwest Regional Under Ten team after a tryout in Woodland, California back in February, and were informed earlier this month that they had made the team.
Five teams participated in the four-day annual Oakdale Baseball Association (OBA) Come As You Are tournament this past week. The action began on Wednesday, June 17 and came to a close on Saturday, June 20 under the lights of Fair Oaks Field at Fair Oaks Elementary School. The 12 and under division ballplayers geared up to play under the blazing afternoon sun and under the cool breeze and lights for their night games and put on a show for their fans, family and friends.
The Oakdale Gators Swim team kicked off the 2015 swim season on Saturday, June 6 at the Oakdale Aquatic Center. The first meet of the season hosted a large number of attendees for the Oakdale Swim Team's recreational group. Children as young as the age of 5 were ready to compete and take to the water, swimming in 25-yard events. The meet concluded shortly after 1:30 p.m.
All three levels of Oakdale High School baseball teams and their players were honored on Tuesday, May 26, saluted for their efforts during the season. Coaches, players, family and friends gathered at the OHS main gym Tuesday evening for the end of the season awards ceremony for the Mustangs.
Oakdale High School junior Hannah Chappell has made a tradition out of advancing to the California State Track and Field State Meet. Chappell, who competes in both the discus and shot put throwing competitions, powered her way to first place in the discus competition this past weekend at the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Meet at Elk Grove. Chappell's first place heave came on her third and final toss which traveled 151-02 feet. It not only made her a Section champion, it also made her a three-time State Meet qualifier.
One way local youngsters were beating the heat was attending the Kickboxing class the Oakdale Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Academy offered at their Last Stand Training Center. The summer classes began on Monday, June 1 and will conclude on Friday, July 31. This unique class offers kickboxing, submission wrestling and anti-bullying tactics.
