With hundreds of top youth swimmers packed into competing events for the Come Up For Air swim tournament in Lake Tahoe on Saturday, July 23, Oakdale's Emily Bennett stepped up to land impressive finishes against the talented field.
Oakdale's successful recreation swim program proved they could peak at the right time during the Mid Valley Swim League championships at their host Oakdale Aquatic Center on Saturday, July 16. Seventy percent of Oakdale Gators swimmers saw improved times and an amazing 40 percent bested personal marks in multiple events at the season finale.
Stanislaus Aquaticz Swimmer and Oakdale resident Emily Bennett shined at the prestigious Come Up For Air swim tournament in Lake Tahoe on Saturday, July 23. With top swimmers packed into a competitive meet, Bennett improved several of her best times and landed four first place finishes to take second place in the high point awards for her 11-12 age group.She also qualified for Junior Olympics in several races.

The summer of 2011 has broken new waves for the sport of water polo in the Oakdale community. For the first time in city history, 14-and-under and 12-and-under squads have seen huge participation during summer play. A "hat trick" is a term normally reserved for three scores in soccer, but Oakdale youth swimmer Soren Dickens nabbed the pool version of this feat by winning three events at the Speedo International Swim Meet at Ft Lauderdale, Florida in late June.
Five Oakdale baseball players, a Riverbank player and several more from Turlock met with Oakdale High graduate and current California State University, Berkeley pitcher Justin Jones earlier this month during the college World Series in Nebraska. They also saw Cal compete in the CWS, but Jones could not take the mound because of injury.
One of the closest races in the Oakdale Invitational on June 11 was a tight thriller in the 9-10 50 meter breast stroke, when Dustin VandenBosch of the Oakdale Gators out-touched the second place finisher by just five one hundredths of a second to win the event. He would go on to claim second in the 100 free, join a first place 100 free relay and second place 100 medley relay as well in a very successful event for the young swimmer.

Two of Oakdale's youth softball players are preparing to make a trip to Orlando, Florida to play in the inaugural ESPN Wide World of Sports All American Games July 13 through July 16. Oakdale youngsters Delainey Everett and Kylie Valente were named as members of the Northwest Regional Under Ten team after a tryout in Woodland, California back in February, and were informed earlier this month that they had made the team.
Five teams participated in the four-day annual Oakdale Baseball Association (OBA) Come As You Are tournament this past week. The action began on Wednesday, June 17 and came to a close on Saturday, June 20 under the lights of Fair Oaks Field at Fair Oaks Elementary School. The 12 and under division ballplayers geared up to play under the blazing afternoon sun and under the cool breeze and lights for their night games and put on a show for their fans, family and friends.
The Oakdale Gators Swim team kicked off the 2015 swim season on Saturday, June 6 at the Oakdale Aquatic Center. The first meet of the season hosted a large number of attendees for the Oakdale Swim Team's recreational group. Children as young as the age of 5 were ready to compete and take to the water, swimming in 25-yard events. The meet concluded shortly after 1:30 p.m.
All three levels of Oakdale High School baseball teams and their players were honored on Tuesday, May 26, saluted for their efforts during the season. Coaches, players, family and friends gathered at the OHS main gym Tuesday evening for the end of the season awards ceremony for the Mustangs.
Oakdale High School junior Hannah Chappell has made a tradition out of advancing to the California State Track and Field State Meet. Chappell, who competes in both the discus and shot put throwing competitions, powered her way to first place in the discus competition this past weekend at the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Meet at Elk Grove. Chappell's first place heave came on her third and final toss which traveled 151-02 feet. It not only made her a Section champion, it also made her a three-time State Meet qualifier.
One way local youngsters were beating the heat was attending the Kickboxing class the Oakdale Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Academy offered at their Last Stand Training Center. The summer classes began on Monday, June 1 and will conclude on Friday, July 31. This unique class offers kickboxing, submission wrestling and anti-bullying tactics.
