The Under-12 Oakdale Baseball Association All Stars had the luxury of hosting a postseason tournament last week after rolling through the 'As You Are' tournament at Santos Field with a perfect 4-0 record.
A packed house of swimmers and onlookers at the Oakdale Aquatic Center did little to rattle the host Oakdale Gators youth swim program on June 9 at the Oakdale Invitational. Gators swimmers accounted for four event championships and an impressive 25 total top-five finishes in the competing events.
Oakdale Gators youth swimmers got the best of their competition during a three-team showdown with Modesto and host Tracy on June 12. The Gators accounted for an incredible 62 top-three finishes in the barrage of events across all age divisions. The team is back in action on June 23 at the Turlock SeaDog Invitational.
After a whirlwind tour of national tournaments for the Oakdale Youth Wrestling Club, the pressures of the USA Wrestling California State Freestyle Championships on June 1 were about as intimidating as a gnat in pajamas.
A packed house at the Tracy Invitational provided plenty of opposition for the Oakdale Gators youth swim program on May 26 and 27, but couldn't keep local swimmers from fast times and 20 total top-five placements.
Oakdale High boys basketball coach Jeremy Fields is hosting open tryouts for any 5th and 6th grade boys interested in a travel basketball program. Oakdale has a rich history of custom cars and hot-rodding. That history continues as another nostalgia nitromethane fueled funny car has been found. This one, a 1969 fiberglass bodied racecar, belongs to Richard Townsend.

The summer is off to a sizzling start but it will not be long before the boys of fall take over Oakdale. Like National Football League (NFL) teams, the Oakdale High School varsity football team is currently prepping for the upcoming season. Several members of the Mustang squad headed up to Placer High School recently to participate in a multi-team training camp.
Two of Oakdale's youth softball players are preparing to make a trip to Orlando, Florida to play in the inaugural ESPN Wide World of Sports All American Games July 13 through July 16. Oakdale youngsters Delainey Everett and Kylie Valente were named as members of the Northwest Regional Under Ten team after a tryout in Woodland, California back in February, and were informed earlier this month that they had made the team.
Five teams participated in the four-day annual Oakdale Baseball Association (OBA) Come As You Are tournament this past week. The action began on Wednesday, June 17 and came to a close on Saturday, June 20 under the lights of Fair Oaks Field at Fair Oaks Elementary School. The 12 and under division ballplayers geared up to play under the blazing afternoon sun and under the cool breeze and lights for their night games and put on a show for their fans, family and friends.
The Oakdale Gators Swim team kicked off the 2015 swim season on Saturday, June 6 at the Oakdale Aquatic Center. The first meet of the season hosted a large number of attendees for the Oakdale Swim Team's recreational group. Children as young as the age of 5 were ready to compete and take to the water, swimming in 25-yard events. The meet concluded shortly after 1:30 p.m.
All three levels of Oakdale High School baseball teams and their players were honored on Tuesday, May 26, saluted for their efforts during the season. Coaches, players, family and friends gathered at the OHS main gym Tuesday evening for the end of the season awards ceremony for the Mustangs.
Oakdale High School junior Hannah Chappell has made a tradition out of advancing to the California State Track and Field State Meet. Chappell, who competes in both the discus and shot put throwing competitions, powered her way to first place in the discus competition this past weekend at the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Meet at Elk Grove. Chappell's first place heave came on her third and final toss which traveled 151-02 feet. It not only made her a Section champion, it also made her a three-time State Meet qualifier.
One way local youngsters were beating the heat was attending the Kickboxing class the Oakdale Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Academy offered at their Last Stand Training Center. The summer classes began on Monday, June 1 and will conclude on Friday, July 31. This unique class offers kickboxing, submission wrestling and anti-bullying tactics.
