When the last chunk of earth finally settled back to the arena floor at the 62nd Annual Oakdale Saddle Club Rodeo, New Mexico's Jim Ross Cooper emerged as the lone cash-winner in multiple events to seal the honor as the 2013 All-Around Champion. He joined a host of buckle-winners that included Oakdale's Norm Mendenhall, a team roping champion alongside Allen Pruitt. Local cowboys Joe Murry (Oakdale) and Frank Perry claimed top honor is the 50-and-over Gold Card team roping event as well.

Fight fans flocked into the Merced County Fairgrounds to cheer on local amateur mixed martial arts action over the weekend. The hard-hitting four-hour event, Hoplite Fight Productions' "Finished: No Judges Required" took place on Saturday night, July 18.
The summer youth basketball clinic and open gym began on Tuesday, July 7 at Oakdale High School's main gym. Kids from the ages of 8 to 13 attended the first of seven clinics and open gym. This two hour, once-a-week event is instructed by Coach Devin Ginty.
By the dozens, members of the Oakdale Gators swim team took to the pool on Saturday, July 11 as the squad went on the road to face off with Lodi. They swam at Tokay High School and the visiting Gators put on a dominating show, with plenty of participants hitting the lanes to kick, crawl and flip turn their way to victory.
Hoplite Fight Productions 'Finished: No Judges Required' mixed martial arts (MMA) event takes place on Saturday, July 18 at the Merced County Fairgrounds. Oakdale's Last Stand will be strongly represented in the event. Two titles will be on the line when Oakdale's Anthony "Homicide" Howard (3-0) takes on Jose Navarro (2-0) of No Limits MMA for the vacant Flyweight Title, and Brit Lippencot (3-0) clashes with Jacobo Longoria (2-1) of Flawless Victory MMA for the vacant Welterweight Title.
The Oakdale Gators Swim team kicked off the 2015 swim season on Saturday, June 6 at the Oakdale Aquatic Center. The first meet of the season hosted a large number of attendees for the Oakdale Swim Team's recreational group. Children as young as the age of 5 were ready to compete and take to the water, swimming in 25-yard events. The meet concluded shortly after 1:30 p.m.
