If Savannah Stender embroidered the first letter of her name across her chest, it would not only be alphabetically correct, it would be a red cape short of describing her heroics. Last week while driving to a favorite camping spot of mine, I got behind a boat that was being towed by a small SUV. It wouldn't have been too bad if the boat being towed was small but the boat was a lot bigger than the SUV which is very dangerous. Just because a car or truck can pull a boat or trailer, doesn't mean that it's safe. In the event that they were to blow a tire or have to suddenly stop, there's no way they would be able to gain control of their trailer ...

It seems like every year, as far back as I can remember, we've been in a drought. This one though is a little different. I've seen the water levels in some of our local lakes lower than I've ever seen them before. When I was a kid, this would be the prime time to scour the banks in search of fishing treasure. There are sure to be lures and other miscellaneous items that have been lost by anglers while fishing when the water levels were higher. If I only had a metal detector, who knows what can ...
For several years now there's been a mandatory inspection for boats entering our local lakes for Quagga-Zebra Mussels. Most of us I'm sure think of the inspection as a hassle but it's necessary to help prevent these species from taking over our lakes. Quagga-Zebra Mussels are filter feeders that reproduce at alarming rates once they are introduced to a body of water. If they were allowed to take over a lake they would filter out all the suspended particulate, zooplankton, and phytoplankton in a body of water leaving smaller baitfish without a food source in turn leaving ...

Summer time is top water fishing time for Bass. Catching Bass on a top water lure is one of the most exciting experiences in fishing. As exciting as it is, it also can be very difficult hooking up with a fish once it strikes. A common mistake anglers make when fishing with top water lures is setting the hook too early. Experienced anglers will tell you to wait until you feel the fish, but that's easier said than done. It took me several years and many hours on the water until I finally was able to wait on my ...

To quote one of my favorite authors, Henry David Thoreau, "Man is rich in comparison to what he can let alone." I was reminded of that quote this past week as I was camping up at Clarks Fork. For those who have no idea where Clarks Fork is, it's roughly 60 miles above Sonora, located in the Stanislaus National Forest. Unlike my last camping trip, there's no WiFi or cell phone service. So, for four straight days it might as well have been 1985. It felt great not having to worry about checking emails, missed phone calls, and ...
At the 26th annual Toyota/Save Mart 350, Carl Edwards didn't lead the most laps, but when he took over the top spot with 26 laps to go, he led the most important ones. It was Edwards' first ever win on a road course. It was the culmination of a lot of hard work and practice on road courses. Edwards qualified fourth and looked to be strong, but his car fell off early on in during the race, but his crew chief (Jimmy Fennig) was able to make the right car setup calls that would put Edwards back up ...
