The other day while driving home from work I saw a truck towing a trailer with a couple snowmobiles on it. I thought to myself, that's odd being the middle of summer. Then as I thought some more, I thought about my boat parked in my backyard with very few places to go anymore that have any water. Like a lot of you, I'm hoping for an early fall and lots of rain. If I've learned anything through writing this column, it's that our weather system seems to go through cycles. I'm hoping that this ...

The biggest fish I ever caught was caught by a rod and reel combo that cost me no more than $80 at the time. The biggest fish that I ever lost was lost while fishing with one of my most expensive rod and reel combo's. Several years ago while talking with a local bass fishing professional, he told me "buy the best equipment that you can afford." What he meant was that if $50 was your budget, then buy something within your budget. With that said, of all places to save a penny, I don't recommend opting for ...
Several weeks ago I ran into an angler that I haven't seen in a few years. He's got to be in his 70's by now. As we were catching up, the excitement in his voice when talking about fishing was like if he was a kid again. He seemed excited about his next trip out and having a bead on the current fishing conditions. I couldn't help but think to myself how strong a passion for fishing can really be. I've got friends who've sacrificed it all to fish professionally. Unfortunately for them, things ...

School in many communities is now back in session, which signifies to me that summer is coming to an end. It's been a pretty good summer. I kicked it off with a fishing trip and just recently officially ended my summer with a fishing trip. In the middle, I mixed in a couple camping trips to Clarks Fork, Lake Pardee, and even scouted out some future camping spots. Just like when I was a kid, the summer seemed to fly right by and now it's time to get back to work. Going into each summer I usually have ...

Life jackets are one of the most valuable pieces of equipment on a boat. A lot of owners spend huge amounts of money on radio systems, wakeboard towers, downriggers, power poles, and other luxury items on their boats. When it comes to life jackets though, a lot of times they couldn't tell you what sizes they have and some of them even keep them stowed away under a seat compartment somewhere. In the past 10 years or more suspender type life jackets have become popular amongst boaters. Most them are designed to automatically inflate once submerged in water. The ...
