Juanita passed away on October 18, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband Roger Sill. Juanita is survived by her brother, Paul A. Lewis, many nephews, nieces and family members and numerous friends. A graveside memorial service will be held Thursday, October 22, 2015 in the Oakdale Citizens Cemetery at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Community Hospice.
Dr. Alpers was born in Portola, CA on Valentine's Day and died October 8, 2015 in Oakdale. He was raised on a dairy in Valley Home, graduated from Valley Home Elementary School and Oakdale High School. Jack went on to graduate with a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of California at Davis. At the time, Dr. Alpers was the youngest student to be accepted into the veterinary program. In college he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity.
Jaylen Craig Franks was born in Modesto, Ca on November 14th 1958, to the proud parents of Wanda Breshears and Fralie Franks. He grew up and resided in Oakdale, Ca his entire life. Jay attended Oakdale schools and graduated Oakdale High in 1976. He played high school football and baseball and developed a lifelong love for playing and teaching the sports to others. He first married right out of high school and tragically lost a son named Craig, but was blessed later with a daughter named Kendra.
Donald W. Clark, a Salinas resident, passed away on September 17, 2015. Don was born in Vinta, OK on January 17, 1933. He was raised in Modesto, CA. Don received degrees in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics from San Jose State University and California State University Sacramento, respectively. Following college he moved to Sonora, CA. He bravely married a woman with three adolescent children in 1971.
Dianne entered peacefully into rest on Saturday October 10, 2015 at home. She was 67 years old and a native of California, growing up in Oakdale and currently living in Modesto. Dianne was employed for a number of years in the jewelry industry. She is survived by her husband John Hudson, her daughters Julie and Joni Brown, Julie's husband Danny, her stepsons Greg and Chris Hudson, and Chris' wife Victoria.
Mrs. Anita Gonzales was born on January 2, 1919 in Cotton City, Maricopa, Arizona. Anita has been a blessing to all she has come in contact with over the past 95 years. A viewing will be held Wednesday, Oct. 14th 3-6pm followed immediately by a rosary, St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Dewey Wayne Hill, 76, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents Troy and Lillie Hill and brother Olen Hill. He is survived by his sister Mary Pruitt of Atoka, OK and children David (Roslyn) Hill, Vivian Kalik and Vicki (Jon) Mutoza, all of Oakdale, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Renee passed away quietly on July 13, 2015, she was 91. Renee was preceded by her beloved husband Jim, her father Paul Cortese, mother Amelia, and two sisters Ida Sisson and Marie Moritz. Renee was born in Oakdale and attended Oakdale High School, she graduated in 1942. After high school, she attended Modesto Junior College. She then moved to San Francisco where she went to work for the U.S. Marine Corps to help in the war effort.
Owen Goldsmith lost his life in the Butte Fire on September 16, 2015. Born on October 8, 1932 in Borger, Texas, he was preceded in death by his three older siblings - Mavis, Mildred, and Arlen. Owen graduated from Oakdale High School and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Owen taught music and chorus at Livermore High School. After an early retirement, he became a well-published composer. The family requests that any donations be made to the Central Calaveras Fire Protection District to support the local firefighters who lost their own homes in trying to save others.
Ed passed away Aug. 3, 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was born in Oakdale on Sept. 26, 1926 to James and Lolly Bianchi. He lived on Horseshoe Road and attended Oakdale schools before entering the US Navy in 1945. Ed worked for Pohl Sheet Metal, Hunt's and Simpson Paper in Ripon where he retired after 30 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and was an avid mechanic; building hot rods, restoring old cars and building championship race cars.
Steven passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 75. Steven leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years, Susan Diestsch Hallert, three children: Scott, Kimberly (Robert) and Steven Matthew (Kristie), six grandchildren: Sean, Sara Bennett, Cody (Cheyenne), April, Tanner and Emily Bennett, one great-granddaughter, Kyra Hallert, brothers, Richard (Kathleen) and David (Jane) and many nieces, nephews and beloved friends. Steven resided in San Lorenzo for 24 years before relocating to Oakdale upon his retirement from the Oakland Fire Department in 1993. Lucille Corbett passed away on Aug. 8, 2015 at the age of 97. Born in Oakdale, on June 29, 1918, she was preceded in death by her husband Lucien Frederick Corbett and her son Lawrence Corbett. She was the daughter of Roy O. Spencer and Rella Spencer Coop. Her siblings were Evan Spencer, Lillie Oliver, and Doris Shepherdson, all deceased.
