Owen Goldsmith lost his life in the Butte Fire on September 16, 2015. Born on October 8, 1932 in Borger, Texas, he was preceded in death by his three older siblings - Mavis, Mildred, and Arlen. Owen graduated from Oakdale High School and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Owen taught music and chorus at Livermore High School. After an early retirement, he became a well-published composer. The family requests that any donations be made to the Central Calaveras Fire Protection District to support the local firefighters who lost their own homes in trying to save others.
Ed passed away Aug. 3, 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was born in Oakdale on Sept. 26, 1926 to James and Lolly Bianchi. He lived on Horseshoe Road and attended Oakdale schools before entering the US Navy in 1945. Ed worked for Pohl Sheet Metal, Hunt's and Simpson Paper in Ripon where he retired after 30 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and was an avid mechanic; building hot rods, restoring old cars and building championship race cars.
Steven passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 75. Steven leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years, Susan Diestsch Hallert, three children: Scott, Kimberly (Robert) and Steven Matthew (Kristie), six grandchildren: Sean, Sara Bennett, Cody (Cheyenne), April, Tanner and Emily Bennett, one great-granddaughter, Kyra Hallert, brothers, Richard (Kathleen) and David (Jane) and many nieces, nephews and beloved friends. Lucille Corbett passed away on Aug. 8, 2015 at the age of 97. Born in Oakdale, on June 29, 1918, she was preceded in death by her husband Lucien Frederick Corbett and her son Lawrence Corbett. She was the daughter of Roy O. Spencer and Rella Spencer Coop. Her siblings were Evan Spencer, Lillie Oliver, and Doris Shepherdson, all deceased.

Alex Ravetz of Chico, California, died unexpectedly in his home Sunday evening of a sudden cardiac event. Alex spent both his final and formative years in Chico while Oakdale was his home during his teen years and young adulthood. He attended Oakdale High School and excelled in woodworking and golf. Following high school he attended the Golf Academy of America in San Diego. For the past three years Alex had been a custom woodworker. In his spare time, he had also been remodeling the house he grew up in for his new family.
John spent his whole adult life dedicated to loving and taking care of his three children. John's everlasting love has lived on through his friends and family. John is survived by his Mom and Dad Jim and Judy Jackson; his three children Justin, Julianna, and Jocelyn Jackson. Laurel Sue Mahaney, 64, passed away on July 9 after battling a reoccurrence of lymphoma for several months. She is preceded in death by her father, Dean "Shorty" Mahaney and survived by her mother, June Mahaney of Oakdale. Laurel leaves behind her daughter, Kira Earhart (Oden) and son-in-law, Nathan Earhart, and two beloved grandchildren, Reilly and Ryder, all of Waterford.
