The Oakdale High School Booster Club will be hosting its annual Dinner-Dance-Auction this Saturday, Feb. 27 at the F.E.S. Hall. The event is scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at the Hall on North Lee Avenue in Oakdale.
On Saturday, Feb. 6 Oakdale High School's Academic Decathlon team brought home the trophy for the 16th consecutive year as the winners of the 36th Annual Stanislaus County Academic Decathlon. This year's theme was "India."
Gratton Elementary School in Stanislaus County took first place in the Northern California Regional Contest for the Future City Competition held in January in Vallejo at the California Maritime Academy. HiMap Academy placed second. HiMAP is an Academy focusing on STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading & Writing, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) disciplines at CSU Stanislaus.
As part of Youth Arts Month, the public is invited to visit the Educationally Interpretive Exhibition, "Making Arts Learning Visible!" Feb. 29 – April 1, 2016 (8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.) at the Stanislaus County Office of Education (1100 H St., second floor). The Art Show features student work, photos and evidence of the process of art-making from preschool to advanced high school students across Region 6, which includes Amador, Calaveras, San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Tuolumne counties.
A public forum which was talked about by many was attended by few. Close to 50 people attended the Boundary Study, Public Forum on Thursday evening, Feb. 4 at Magnolia Elementary. Of the 50 in attendance close to half were Oakdale Joint Unified School District (OJUSD) educators and administrators. A flier announcing the Public Forum was sent home with all elementary school students two weeks prior to the meeting.
The Stanislaus County Academic Decathlon Trophy has once again returned to the Oakdale High School campus, back in Mustang territory. For the 16th consecutive year Oakdale's Aca Dec team has proven what some may deny, Oakdale students are driven well beyond the sports playing field.
Students participating in the Stanislaus County Leadership Academy will meet on Friday, Feb. 5 for Media Day. Students will learn about the media from Never Boring before they hear strategies for future employment branding from E & J Gallo executives. Students will also learn about social media dangers and digital citizenship. The day will conclude with tips for dealing with the media along with hands on practical applications.
Oakdale Joint Unified School District Board, teachers and classified staff have settled contracts. On Monday, Feb. 1 during its monthly scheduled meeting, contracts for all district employees, as well as salary increases for management, classified positions and board compensation were approved.
The Oakdale High School Academic Decathlon team has been the reigning Stanislaus County Champions for as long as some team members have been alive. That's a tall order to maintain; the nine member competing team, however, shared they are up to the task.
Community members are invited to attend the Stanislaus County Music Festival on Friday, Jan. 29 and Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Modesto Junior College Auditorium. The festival kicks off at 7 p.m. on Friday with the high school and junior high school Honor Choir. At 2 p.m. on Saturday, the high school and junior high school Honor Orchestra will perform, with the festival concluding Saturday evening with the high school and junior high school Honor Band performing at 7 p.m. There is no charge for admission.
