Oakdale Crowns Homecoming Royalty

Following an exciting junior varsity boys overtime win on the basketball court Friday night, the crowd at Oakdale High School was treated to the 2015 Winter Homecoming coronation. Taking the honors were King Derrick Pennington, Queen Kaeli Sturtevant, Princess Emma Burke and Prince Matthew Kjeldgaard.

It was an emotion packed, standing room only setting as Oakdale Joint Unified School Board called to session its first meeting of the New Year. The meeting was hosted Monday evening in City Council Chambers. The agenda listed routine consent items as well as some procedure/policy modifications. But the issue that brought the crowd was not on the agenda as an action item.

Sierra View Elementary Welcomes Home Soldier

A hero's welcome was waiting at Sierra View Elementary School for Army Specialist Evan Bachelder earlier this month. The soldier is also son-in-law to second grade teacher Linda Kraus and the school staff treated him to a Welcome Home reception, which was followed by a visit with some students.

Junior High Efforts Receive County Recognition

Oakdale Junior High was recognized earlier this month by Stanislaus County Office of Education and the Board of Supervisors for its Red Ribbon Week decorating efforts. The school was awarded First Place in the Middle School/Junior High Division. A total of 30 schools from the varying grade level categories participated.

Students Learning Through Service

Cy Cole, founder and Director of Oakdale Academy, recently offered his students an opportunity to combine service and education. The most recent application came in the way of sharing the story of a Waterford couple in need of assistance. As a follow-up to the students spending time serving, they were asked to recount the experience in an article, as if writing for a newspaper.

Fall Festival Celebrates Campus Anniversary

Magnolia Elementary School welcomed the Oakdale Join Unified School District's recent three-day weekend with a little extra special Fall Festival Celebration. On Thursday evening, Oct. 30, the school's administration, Parent Teacher Club and tireless work of Event Chair Teresa Medeiros also celebrated the 75th Anniversary of the school campus.

OHS Represents At Regional Science Olympiad

Oakdale High School's Science Olympiad team finished this year's regional Science Olympiad competition tied for fifth. The team fell short in the tiebreaker, number of gold medals, which will send Central Catholic to the State finals. The top four go to finals. The team faced an unfortunate circumstance when one event was thrown out do to a scoring mistake by the event supervisor.

Craig Clinches Medallion As Distinguished Young Woman

The annual Distinguished Young Women of Oakdale program, sponsored by Soroptimist International of Oakdale, was hosted Saturday, Feb. 21, at Magnolia School Auditorium. Oakdale High School senior and current Distinguished Young Woman Rachelle Pabalan passed her title to Amy Craig, a junior at Oakdale High School. In addition to the $2,500 scholarship for the title award, Amy received two $200 scholarships in the Talent and Interview categories. Scholarship awards were also presented to Makayla Johnson, Second Place; Jessica Gorman, Third Place; Hannah Copher, Fourth Place; and Haley Dyson, Fifth Place.
