Summer Program Starts Monday

Super Summer Camp, offered by Oakdale Joint Unified School District, is kicking off for the second year on Monday, June 4. When the City of Oakdale decided to stop operating the program, the school district took over the summer recreation program for children and added a few extras.

OHS Seniors Earn $120,000 In Scholarship Awards

With more than $120,000 in pledges and donations for scholarships this year, 105 seniors from Oakdale High School turned out for the 44th Annual Scholarship Night program at the Gene Bianchi Community Center on May 8.

School District Plans Facility Improvements

Approximately $3.5 million in developer fees and project savings is expected to mature at the end of June 2013 in the Oakdale Joint Unified School District and must be used for construction or facilities improvements within the next five years. The Oakdale Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees heard a report on district facilities at the regular meeting on May 14 and the steps that have been taken so far to prepare to use those funds once they are available so that they are not "lost."

Cloverland Art Corps Show This Week

Cloverland Elementary School's Parent Teacher Club is hosting the school's 8th Annual Art Show this week. It is open to friends and family on Tuesday, May 1 from 8:30a.m. to 3:30p.m. and also on Wednesday, May 2 from 6p.m. to 8p.m. Classrooms will also be touring the art show on Tuesday, May 1 during the open hours. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Read Across America is a national event to promote reading and is held in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday, which is on March 2. SOS Fundraiser This Saturday

The SOS (Save Oakdale Schools) family fun walk/run is taking place this Saturday, March 9 at 8:30 a.m., starting at Cloverland Elementary School. The fundraiser is a fun event that promotes fitness and raises money for Oakdale Joint Unified School District schools that are trying to make do with less because of budget cuts.

CSU Student Financial Aid Applications Due

Students wishing to apply for financial aid for California State University campuses for the 2013-2014 academic year should submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The priority deadline for submitting a FAFSA is Saturday, March 2. Students are strongly encouraged to apply by that priority deadline, as financial aid may be limited for submissions after March 2.

OHS Team Earns Academic Medals, Awards At County Competition

Oakdale High School finished first overall and also won the Super Quiz at the 33rd Annual Stanislaus County Academic Decathlon on Feb. 1-2 at Gregori High School, Modesto. The "Aca Dec" is considered the biggest academic event for local high schools and is presented by the Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE). It is a two-day series of tests, speeches and interviews, featuring this year's theme, "Russia" with a focus on the space race and the Russian revolution.

A Baker's Dozen - Aca Dec Team Takes Trophy

Oakdale High School has taken the academic championship trophy again, for the 13th time in a row. The OHS team beat out 11 other high schools, swept the top spots for individual high points, and also won the Super Quiz at the 33rd Annual Stanislaus County Academic Decathlon on Feb. 1-2 at Gregori High School, Modesto.
