Columbia College Scholarship, Awards Celebration Planned

The Columbia College Foundation will host the annual Columbia College Scholarship and Awards Celebration on Thursday, April 24, beginning at 4:30p.m. to recognize scholarship recipients and donors. The public is invited to attend the event, which will be held in the Dogwood Forum at Columbia College.

Open Enrollment For California Connections Academy

California Connections Academy @ Ripon, an online public school serving students in grades K-12, is accepting new students for the 2014-2015 school year during the current open enrollment period. Now in its second year of instruction, California Connections Academy provides high-quality, personalized online education to more than 500 students in Alameda, Amador, Calaveras, Contra Costa, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Santa Clara and Stanislaus counties. The school is now hosting free family information sessions-both online and in-person-with Connections Academy educators and staff to fulfill the growing number of requests for information.

Learning In Arts Reception Slated

As part of Youth Arts Month the Stanislaus County Office of Education, in partnership with the Stanislaus County Alliance for Arts Education, is hosting a Region 6 Student Art Show, which includes Amador, Calaveras, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, and Tuolumne Counties. Students, parents, teachers and the Region 6 arts community are invited to attend an evening reception to celebrate Learning in the Arts on Tuesday, March 18 from 6p.m. to 8p.m. The reception will include a tour of the art exhibit along with music performances from local students and a presentation of teacher awards.

Board Approves Spending Of Common Core $$

To implement the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), the Oakdale Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees approved the expenditure plan for it at the March 10 regular meeting. The district receives funds in a one-time allotment of a little over $1.05 million from the state and they may be spent in 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. The CCSS are required to be in place for the 2014-2015 year and the funds must be spent by July 1, 2015. OHS Represents At Regional Science Olympiad

Oakdale High School's Science Olympiad team finished this year's regional Science Olympiad competition tied for fifth. The team fell short in the tiebreaker, number of gold medals, which will send Central Catholic to the State finals. The top four go to finals. The team faced an unfortunate circumstance when one event was thrown out do to a scoring mistake by the event supervisor.

Craig Clinches Medallion As Distinguished Young Woman

The annual Distinguished Young Women of Oakdale program, sponsored by Soroptimist International of Oakdale, was hosted Saturday, Feb. 21, at Magnolia School Auditorium. Oakdale High School senior and current Distinguished Young Woman Rachelle Pabalan passed her title to Amy Craig, a junior at Oakdale High School. In addition to the $2,500 scholarship for the title award, Amy received two $200 scholarships in the Talent and Interview categories.
