Shocking Science Lesson For Students

Fourth graders in the Oakdale Joint Unified School District learned a "shocking" lesson about electricity recently. Shocking Electricity is a science program collaboration between MID and the Great Valley Museum. The 90-minute presentations given by Chris Schmidt and Jon Stout of the Great Valley Museum covered fourth grade electricity standards and gave hands-on experiences to students.

OHS Homecoming Next Week

Oakdale High School is gearing up for Homecoming Week, which runs Oct. 5 through 9, wrapping up with the varsity football game on Friday, Oct. 9 where the Mustangs will face the Ceres High School Bulldogs. Varsity kickoff is scheduled for roughly 7 p.m., following the junior varsity game, which is scheduled for a 5 p.m. kickoff at The Corral.

Everyone needs more room in their closet. Formal dresses take up a lot of room, especially if they're no longer worn. The same goes for men's suits and other dress attire. A donation to the "Prom Closet" at Oakdale High School may provide the remedy that an overstuffed closet needs.

CSU Student Financial Aid Applications Due

Students wishing to apply for financial aid for California State University campuses for the 2013-2014 academic year should submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The priority deadline for submitting a FAFSA is Saturday, March 2. Students are strongly encouraged to apply by that priority deadline, as financial aid may be limited for submissions after March 2.

OHS Team Earns Academic Medals, Awards At County Competition

Oakdale High School finished first overall and also won the Super Quiz at the 33rd Annual Stanislaus County Academic Decathlon on Feb. 1-2 at Gregori High School, Modesto. The "Aca Dec" is considered the biggest academic event for local high schools and is presented by the Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE). It is a two-day series of tests, speeches and interviews, featuring this year's theme, "Russia" with a focus on the space race and the Russian revolution.

A Baker's Dozen - Aca Dec Team Takes Trophy

Oakdale High School has taken the academic championship trophy again, for the 13th time in a row.
