Fundraiser Supports Science, Math Opportunities For Girls

Virtual Night School Offers Class Credits For Students

For high school juniors and seniors who have failed a class, a different kind of night school offers the opportunity to make up those needed credits. Last year the Oakdale Joint Unified School District offered a pilot program called E2020 for students to recapture credits in lieu of regular night school, which was originally part of the adult education program and had been eliminated due to budget cuts.

District API Score Up, No Score For OHS

Oakdale Joint Unified School District has the highest Academic Performance Index (API) score – 797 – for any unified school district in the county this year, up from 794 last year. However, Oakdale High School didn't help the district achieve that number. All test scores for OHS were invalidated because of a teacher error.

International Pilgrimage - St. Mary’s Oakdale Youth Take Journey Of Faith

An educational and religious opportunity to grow stronger in their faith and closer to God recently took five adults and 14 teenagers from Oakdale's St. Mary's Catholic Church to World Youth Day (WYD) in Madrid, Spain. Held every three years in different countries, the international event for Catholic youth attracted approximately 1.5 million people.

Oakdale Posts Top Unified API Score

Details on Academic Performance Index (API) scores for the Oakdale Joint Unified School District are available and show that Oakdale schools made the district the highest scoring unified school district in the county with a score of 798. However, there's an irregularity as there's no posted API score for Oakdale High School.

Deadline Looms For Tdap Vaccinations

With the Sept. 8 deadline looming, some school districts in the area are still battling low student compliance rates for Tdap vaccinations for pertussis, also known as whooping cough, required by the State of California. Before school started, the state's deadline was extended 30 days because extra time was needed for students to get the vaccination, but many are still out of compliance.

Valley Home School Board Appoints Rich Interim Superintendent

Recently retired Oakdale Joint Unified School District Superintendent Fred Rich was named the superintendent/principal for the approximately 170-student Valley Home School District for the "foreseeable future" at the Valley Home Joint School District Board of Trustees regular meeting on Aug. 16.

Schools Focus On Improving Test Scores

Taken in April, just prior to the end of the school year, Standardized Testing And Reporting (STAR) measures students' progress toward achieving California's state academic content standards. The scores attained on these tests are tied to Academic Performance Index (API) scores, which are the standard by which schools are measured.

Valley Home School Board Appoints Rich

The Valley Home Joint School District Board of Trustees met last night, Tuesday, Aug. 16, for their regular meeting where it was reported that they unanimously decided in closed session to put Superintendent/Principal Thomas Kevin Hart on compulsory leave, effective today, Wednesday, Aug. 17 pursuant to California education code 44010, which has to do with a sex offense, and code 44940, which is being charged with a mandatory leave of absence offense. <p ...

Oakdale High Marching Band, Colorguard Take First Place

Driving rain, wind, and cold weather couldn't stop the Oakdale High School Marching Band recently as it took first place at the Lincoln Review of Champions in Stockton. On Nov. 17 bands from the Bay Area, Fresno, and the Central Coast flocked to the review because it's one of the last of the competitive marching band season, which coincides with the end of the football season.

More Salmon Spawning For Student Study This Year

The number of Chinook salmon returning to spawn in the Stanislaus River at the Knights Ferry recreation area appears to be one of the best in several years. Fourth graders in the Oakdale Joint Unified School District recently witnessed the spawning activity and did field studies as part of their state standards salmon unit.
