Outdoor Ed Report Stirs Audience Comments

Ag Day - Farm Learning Comes To School

Helping young students learn that the food they eat and the fibers they wear don't come from the store, but that those things have their beginnings on the farm, is what Ag Day is about. With dedicated teacher organizers and supportive volunteer presenters, Fair Oaks and Cloverland elementary schools were able to bring the farm to their campuses on Oct. 25 at their Sixth Annual Ag Day Roundups.

Pocahontas Production Opens Friday

Oakdale High School Drama Club, under the Direction of Bryan Mills along with seniors Kalli Ford and Shauna Hodge, will present their version of Pocahontas this weekend at the Oakdale High School Theater on Friday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at the business office or at the door if available.

Substitute Pleads Not Guilty

Appearing with his attorney for only a few minutes, Oakdale Joint Unified School District Substitute Teacher Bryan Thies pleaded not guilty on Monday to two counts of felony lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14 and three misdemeanor charges of annoying or molesting a child.

Annual Tobacco Slam Training For Youth

The Stanislaus County Office of Education Prevention Programs Department, in partnership with the Stanislaus County Health Services Agency, California Youth Advocacy Network (CYAN), and Follow the Signs, will host the Ninth Annual PHAST Tobacco Slam training on Tuesday Oct. 1, 8:30a.m. – 2p.m. at the Martin Petersen Event Center, 720 12th St., Modesto.

Constitution Day Observance, Speaker At MJC

The Modesto Junior College Civic Engagement Project will present a Constitution Day Observance featuring Stephen R. Routh, speaking on "The Congress, the President, and the Power to Make War" today, Tuesday, Sept.17 at 7p.m. in Forum 102 on East Campus, 435 College Ave. The event is open to the public and admission is free. Campus parking is available for $1 in student parking lots.

Nursing Program Facility Ribbon Cutting Planned

Modesto Junior College, Columbia College and the Yosemite Community College District will hold a Redbud Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Open House on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 3p.m. in the Redbud Building at Columbia College, 11600 Columbia College Drive, Sonora. The ceremony will be teleconferenced to Glacier Hall on MJC's West Campus, 2201 Blue Gum Ave., Modesto. Both event sites are open to the public and will offer light refreshments. Self-guided tours of Redbud will also be available following the ribbon cutting.

OHS Represents At Regional Science Olympiad

Oakdale High School's Science Olympiad team finished this year's regional Science Olympiad competition tied for fifth. The team fell short in the tiebreaker, number of gold medals, which will send Central Catholic to the State finals. The top four go to finals. The team faced an unfortunate circumstance when one event was thrown out do to a scoring mistake by the event supervisor.

Craig Clinches Medallion As Distinguished Young Woman

The annual Distinguished Young Women of Oakdale program, sponsored by Soroptimist International of Oakdale, was hosted Saturday, Feb. 21, at Magnolia School Auditorium. Oakdale High School senior and current Distinguished Young Woman Rachelle Pabalan passed her title to Amy Craig, a junior at Oakdale High School. In addition to the $2,500 scholarship for the title award, Amy received two $200 scholarships in the Talent and Interview categories.
