Four graduating seniors will take their rightful places at the top of their graduating class at Oakdale High School this year. There were ties for the honors of Valedictorian and Salutatorian. The class of 2009 Valedictorians are Karen Molokach and Katie Zeff, and Salutatorians are Chris Gebhart and Sara Peterson.
Cloverland Elementary School hosted its Fifth Annual Art Corps art show, "Grow Smart with Art" on May 6 and 7. Student artwork was featured in the art show held in the school cafeteria.
Oakdale High School senior Evan Boggs was recently tapped as the winner of this year's coveted Leo Volz scholarship. The Volz scholarship pays full tuition and books for a student for four years to the college of their choice.
The Oakdale Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved several action calendar items that resulted in across the board pay cuts, including for themselves, in order to save jobs and balance the budget at the regular meeting on May 11. However, with the cuts, some classified employee jobs still could not be spared.

Read Across America is a national event to promote reading and is held in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday, which is on March 2. On Friday, March 1, a contingent of Oakdale High School students took part in the event and read across Oakdale, visiting the school district's four elementary schools and sharing storybooks they created themselves.
Oakdale's Sober Grad Night (SGN) committee is busy in preparation for this year's Sober Grad event but they are ready to pass the torch to a new generation of members.
The SOS (Save Oakdale Schools) family fun walk/run is taking place this Saturday, March 9 at 8:30 a.m., starting at Cloverland Elementary School. Students wishing to apply for financial aid for California State University campuses for the 2013-2014 academic year should submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The priority deadline for submitting a FAFSA is Saturday, March 2. Students are strongly encouraged to apply by that priority deadline, as financial aid may be limited for submissions after March 2.

The "Aca Dec" is considered the biggest academic event for local high schools and is presented by the Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE). It is a two-day series of tests, speeches and interviews, featuring this year's theme, "Russia" with a focus on the space race and the Russian revolution.

Oakdale Joint Unified School District employees will see a portion of their salaries restored in actions taken by the district Board of Trustees at the Feb. 4 regular meeting. The school district is able to meet the costs incurred.

OHS brought the championship trophy back to Oakdale from the two-day event filled with interviews, speeches, and tests on Feb. 1-2 at Gregori High School in Modesto. The OHS team now advances to the state contest held in mid-March in Sacramento.
School safety, communicating a crisis to the public, laws relating to weapons on campus, and suggestions for improvements were all part of a special meeting of the Oakdale Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees on Jan. 28.
