Medals Won At Elementary Science Olympiad

Fair Oaks Elementary School recently won the Elementary Science Olympiad, out of 20 teams, bringing home their third championship in the past five years. The Fair Oaks team consisted of 17 members and was coached by teachers Danny Rogers and Mary White. Fair Oaks had 10 students medal in six events.

Students Earn Science Medals At NorCal Competition

The Oakdale High School Science Olympiad team had its best finish yet at the NorCal State Science Olympiad championship, according to team coach Cameron Nickerson. This year the team earned medals in three events, compared to one medal on each of the two prior trips to the NorCal event.

OJUSD Announces New Superintendent Of Schools

The search is over for a new Superintendent for the Oakdale Joint Unified School District and the Board of Trustees didn't have to look too far. Current Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Marc Malone was tapped to fill the Superintendent position after a comprehensive search and two full days of interviews.

"Simply stated, a comprehensive search and interview process was always foremost in the minds of the trustees," said Board President Rick W. Jones. "The interview process was arduous and fair, with top-quality candidates applying. It was unequivocally clear that Marc Malone truly earned the Superintendent's position."

Honor Guard Shows Respect For Flag

The raising and lowering of the American flag at Cloverland Elementary School is carried out daily by a group of well-trained second graders, and by the somber looks on their faces when they carry out the task, they take what they're doing quite seriously.

Renaissance Conference Helps Promote Academics

Oakdale High School hosted the Central Valley Jostens Renaissance Conference on March 30 at the Gene Bianchi Community Center. Students and adult advisors from numerous junior high and high schools attended the event that included an inspirational speaker, workshops for students and advisors alike, an interactive lunch with a DJ host, and a rally.

School District Assumes Summer Program Reins

The Oakdale Joint Unified School District has taken over the reins of the children's summer program from the City of Oakdale, as the city is no longer operating the summer childcare program that has been hosted at Magnolia Elementary School.

Former National Football League player Julian Jenkins recently visited Oakdale High School as a representative of the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) to educate parents and student-athletes on the necessary steps required to play sports at the collegiate level.

Superintendent Picks Narrowed

The Oakdale Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees has narrowed the field of Superintendent candidates to seven to be slated for interviews on April 1-2. This was decided in an action in a closed session meeting held March 28.

Healthy Kids Survey Reveals Changes

Potential changing trends were reflected in the California Healthy Kids Survey administered to fifth, seventh, ninth, and eleventh graders in December 2010. The results were reported to the Oakdale Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees at a recent meeting by the district's Director of Categorical Programs Kristi Rapinchuk.

Healthy Kids Survey Shows New Patterns

Both healthier and less healthy behaviors were revealed in the California Healthy Kids Survey that was administered to Oakdale fifth, seventh, ninth, and eleventh graders in December 2010.

While Oakdale ninth and eleventh graders showed healthier behaviors in the categories of alcohol, tobacco, and inhalant use compared to their peers, they also posted significant increases in marijuana use.

Top 10 Finish - Aca Deca Team Brings Home State Medals

A Top 10 finish was earned by the Oakdale High School Aca Deca team at the 32nd Annual California Academic Decathlon held March 11-14 in Sacramento. Placing eighth overall made the OHS team the highest-ranking Northern California Aca Deca team this year. Top 10 teams were awarded with plaques and the OHS team earned eight individual medals.

Greenhow Named Teacher Of The Year Finalist

Sierra View Elementary School third grade teacher Lisa Greenhow has been selected as a finalist for the Stanislaus County Teacher of the Year award for the K-3 division. She is amongst two other kindergarten through third grade teachers in the county who are up for the award.

Splish Splash - Third Graders Learn Water Safety Lessons

Fair Oaks Elementary students in Catherine Morman's third grade class learned all about the importance of water safety through a program offered by the Knights Ferry branch of the US Army Corps of Engineers when Norm Winchester and his Siberian husky, Kaiya, visited the school site recently.

Craig Clinches Medallion As Distinguished Young Woman

The annual Distinguished Young Women of Oakdale program, sponsored by Soroptimist International of Oakdale, was hosted Saturday, Feb. 21, at Magnolia School Auditorium. Oakdale High School senior and current Distinguished Young Woman Rachelle Pabalan passed her title to Amy Craig, a junior at Oakdale High School. In addition to the $2,500 scholarship for the title award, Amy received two $200 scholarships in the Talent and Interview categories. Sierra View Elementary Welcomes Home Soldier
