OJUSD Classified Employees To Be Honored

Kim Leverett, an Administrative Assistant in the Oakdale Joint Unified School District office, and Annabeth Alcazar, an English Language Program Instructional Aide at Sierra View Elementary School, will be among 28 classified school employees in Stanislaus County honored today, Tuesday, Jan. 22, at a special reception held at the Martin G. Petersen Event Center, 720 12th St., Modesto.

School Trustees Hear Safety Plan

In the wake of the Connecticut school shooting, information about school district safety plans has been in the forefront of people's minds.

Public Invited To County Music Fest

Community members are invited to attend the Stanislaus County Music Festival on Friday, Jan. 25 and Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Modesto Junior College Auditorium. The festival will begin with high school and junior high school Honor Choir performing at 7p.m. on Friday. The high school and junior high school Honor Orchestra will perform at 2p.m. on Saturday with the festival concluding Saturday evening with the high school and junior high school Honor Band performing at 7p.m. There is no charge for admission.

General Fund Impact - Special Ed Costs Soaring

Special education costs are increasing for school districts, while the state and federal governments' contributions are decreasing, according to a 25-page report on special education in California released Jan. 3 by the state Legislative Analyst's Office (LAO).

Kids’ Museum Gives Glimpse Of Ancient Egypt

Magnolia Elementary School's annual sixth grade Egyptian Museum project was put on display on Dec. 21. Approximately 90 sixth graders from Rachelle Savage's, Shelley Rien's, Gina Bijleveld's and Steve Alban's classes participated by exhibiting their "artifacts" at the museum. Three classrooms hosted the museum and Egyptian hostesses welcomed other classes that toured the exhibits.

Robbins Closes Out Career At Riverbank Schools

Riverbank Unified School District (RUSD) lead grounds man, Ronnie Robbins, is settling in to a new role, retirement, after completing 33 years of service with the district. Robbins originally worked at Rio Altura Elementary School, which is now the site of Riverbank Language Academy, for 10 years. Then he moved to Cardozo Middle School and spent a year and a half as the groundskeeper there. The rest of his 22-year career was spent as the lead grounds man for the school district, working at a variety of locations.

Orchestra Concert For Kids Of All Ages

The Modesto Junior College Community Orchestra, directed by Anne Martin, will present a concert for kids of all ages tonight, Tuesday, Dec. 4, in the auditorium of the Media and Performing Arts Center on east campus. The concert has an early start time of 7p.m. to accommodate families with young children.
