Helping young students learn that the food they eat and the fibers they wear don't come from the store, but that those things have their beginnings on the farm, is what Ag Day is about. With dedicated teacher organizers and supportive volunteer presenters, Fair Oaks and Cloverland elementary schools were able to bring the farm to their campuses on Oct. 25 at their Sixth Annual Ag Day Roundups.
Oakdale High School Drama Club, under the Direction of Bryan Mills along with seniors Kalli Ford and Shauna Hodge, will present their version of Pocahontas this weekend at the Oakdale High School Theater on Friday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at the business office or at the door if available.
Appearing with his attorney for only a few minutes, Oakdale Joint Unified School District Substitute Teacher Bryan Thies pleaded not guilty on Monday to two counts of felony lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14 and three misdemeanor charges of annoying or molesting a child.

Modesto Junior College, Columbia College and the Yosemite Community College District will hold a Redbud Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Open House on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 3p.m. in the Redbud Building at Columbia College, 11600 Columbia College Drive, Sonora. The ceremony will be teleconferenced to Glacier Hall on MJC's West Campus, 2201 Blue Gum Ave., Modesto. Both event sites are open to the public and will offer light refreshments. Self-guided tours of Redbud will also be available following the ribbon cutting.
Signups for Beginning or Advanced Elementary Band in the Oakdale Joint Unified School District takes place tonight, Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 6p.m. to 8p.m. at Sierra View Elementary School, 1323 East J St., Oakdale. The signups are for fifth and sixth graders throughout the entire school district.
It is little secret that we are living in a day and age of rapid technological advances. Gone are the day of chalkboards in classrooms and dry erase boards are slowly finding their way into classroom extinction.
Oakdale students from kindergarten through eighth grade dusted off their beakers, pulled out their scales and searched the Web to gather ideas to submit for the 32nd Annual Science Fair. Students from all four elementary schools, as well as Oakdale Junior High School, were represented in this year's event.
