Stanislaus County Students Prepare For Music Festival

Community members are invited to attend the Stanislaus County Music Festival on Friday, Jan. 29 and Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Modesto Junior College Auditorium. The festival kicks off at 7 p.m. on Friday with the high school and junior high school Honor Choir. At 2 p.m. on Saturday, the high school and junior high school Honor Orchestra will perform, with the festival concluding Saturday evening with the high school and junior high school Honor Band performing at 7 p.m. There is no charge for admission.

Educational Technology Conference Scheduled

The Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE) is hosting the 17th Annual Educational Technology Conference (ETC) 2016 on Feb. 27 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at California State University Stanislaus (CSUS) One University Circle, Turlock. The ETC 2016 conference is a professional development opportunity for integrating technology into education. A wide variety of sessions will be offered that demonstrate how technology can support student achievement. Sessions are geared to teachers, administrators, support staff, IT professionals, technology coordinators and pre-service educators.

Students Gear Up For Annual Academic Decathlon Contest

Weathering late-night study sessions, team practices and hours of reading, Stanislaus County high school students are pulling out all the stops as they head into the home stretch of preparations for the 2016 Stanislaus County Academic Decathlon. Hailed as the biggest academic event for local high schools, the decathlon is a two-day series of tests, speeches and interviews featuring this year's theme, "India."

Homecoming Week In Full Swing

Tuesday, Jan. 19 marked the beginning of Winter Homecoming Week at Oakdale High School. The theme for the week is "Mustangs Out of This Universe." Activities will include theme days as well as a Class Theme Day on Thursday, Jan. 21. Themes by class for that day will be: Seniors - Hunger Games; Juniors - Harry Potter; Sophomores - Sky High and Freshmen - Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. ROYAL RAMS

Oakdale Junior High will host the Third Annual Royal Rams Competition on Friday, Jan. 8 at Magnolia Auditorium. The show starts at 5:30 p.m. and admission is $5 per person. A total of 27 Teams, encompassing 54 eighth grade students, will compete in the categories of fitness, formal wear and famous couples. Awards are given by category as well as overall top three winners. Proceeds from the event benefit the eighth graduation Six Flags Marine World Trip.

Magnolia Enjoys McHenry Field Trip

Magnolia Elementary third graders took a ride out of town earlier this month as they made their way to Modesto for a quick field trip. The four third-grade classes were treated to tours of both the McHenry Mansion as well as the McHenry Museum.

Oakdale, Riverbank Students Earn Academy Nominations

U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) has announced the 2015 service academy nominees from California's 10th district. Rep. Denham nominated 16 students from cities across the district to four of the nation's prestigious military academies. Among them are Oakdale and Riverbank nominees.

OJUSD Music Programs Perform For Packed House

The past week wrapped up two weeks of musical enjoyment for students and the families of Oakdale Joint Unified School District. Elementary band kicked off the holiday merriment, with a packed house at Magnolia Auditorium on Wednesday, Dec. 9. Students of Oakdale Junior High and Oakdale High School band delighted the listeners the following evening with a toe tapping concert also hosted at Magnolia.

Area Students Contribute To Salmon Festival Calendar

Student artwork was recently chosen for inclusion in the Stanislaus River Salmon Festival 2016 Calendar. Local students in kindergarten through eighth grades were invited to submit work through their teachers and the calendar covers November 2015 through January 2017.
