Oakdale Junior High will host the Third Annual Royal Rams Competition on Friday, Jan. 8 at Magnolia Auditorium. The show starts at 5:30 p.m. and admission is $5 per person. A total of 27 Teams, encompassing 54 eighth grade students, will compete in the categories of fitness, formal wear and famous couples. Awards are given by category as well as overall top three winners. Proceeds from the event benefit the eighth graduation Six Flags Marine World Trip.
Valley Home students were recently acknowledged for their scholastic efforts at a Student of the Month assembly. Students honored were: Alex Stevens, Cody Bartholomew, Ashley Espino, Skye Braaten, Maria Alvarez, Scott Segraves, Dominic Gonzales, Raul Guerrero and Josephine Webster.
Magnolia Elementary third graders took a ride out of town earlier this month as they made their way to Modesto for a quick field trip. The four third-grade classes were treated to tours of both the McHenry Mansion as well as the McHenry Museum.
U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) has announced the 2015 service academy nominees from California's 10th district. Rep. Denham nominated 16 students from cities across the district to four of the nation's prestigious military academies. Among them are Oakdale and Riverbank nominees.
The past week wrapped up two weeks of musical enjoyment for students and the families of Oakdale Joint Unified School District. Elementary band kicked off the holiday merriment, with a packed house at Magnolia Auditorium on Wednesday, Dec. 9. Students of Oakdale Junior High and Oakdale High School band delighted the listeners the following evening with a toe tapping concert also hosted at Magnolia.
Student artwork was recently chosen for inclusion in the Stanislaus River Salmon Festival 2016 Calendar. Local students in kindergarten through eighth grades were invited to submit work through their teachers and the calendar covers November 2015 through January 2017.
The Oakdale High School Drama department presents the classic tale Of Mice and Men. The Drama department is looking to take the well-known novel from the pages to the stage on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 11 and 12 at 7 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 13 with a 2 p.m. matinee performance.
In celebration of a thankful season Michelle Jones' Transitional Kindergarten class began the Friday prior to Thanksgiving break with a song by Debbie Clement, "You're Wonderful." The song is a positive thinking song for young people, highlighting positive attributes.
This fall, 137 high school juniors and seniors from throughout the county participated in the American Heritage Scholarship Series essay contest. Nineteen students were honored for their essays at an awards ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 17. A total of $10,000 in scholarships awards were presented including one $2,000 scholarship; two $1,500 scholarships; two $1,000 scholarships; four $500 scholarships and 10 $100 scholarships.
