School District, Unions Open Agreement Process

The Oakdale Joint Unified School District and the Oakdale Teachers Association exchanged initial proposals to modify their collective bargaining agreement in an action taken in a public hearing at the OJUSD Board of Trustees Oct. 10 regular meeting. OJUSD Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Terri Taylor said at the meeting that she'd present the California School Employees Association #830 with its respective proposal on Oct. 11, as a CSEA representative was not available at the time of the public hearing.

Oakdale Schools Benefit From Foundation Dinner

After weeks of preparation, collecting teachers' wish lists, and transforming the Oakdale Junior High School library, the school's Fall Book Fair will run Monday, Oct. 3 through Friday, Oct. 7. The theme for this year's event is "To the Book Fair and Beyond: Reading Is Out of This World."

OHS Begins Prep For Homecoming Week

Leadership students at Oakdale High School are ramping up their preparations for football homecoming on Friday, Oct. 7. Students representing each class at the high school will paint windows along F Street in downtown Oakdale with the "California Adventure" theme on Saturday, Oct. 1 to help infuse some Mustang spirit into the community.

Elementary Band Numbers Increase

The Beginning Band program is busting at the seams in the Oakdale Joint Unified School District due to some ideas the district's band instructor Ross McGinnis implemented. However, the increase has resulted in a gap between the number of budding musicians and available instruments. While the program managed to round up a few dozen used instruments, still more are needed.

Virtual Night School Offers Class Credits For Students

For high school juniors and seniors who have failed a class, a different kind of night school offers the opportunity to make up those needed credits. Last year the Oakdale Joint Unified School District offered a pilot program called E2020 for students to recapture credits in lieu of regular night school, which was originally part of the adult education program and had been eliminated due to budget cuts.
