OTA Gets New President

After serving for 10 years as the Oakdale Teachers Association president, Sierra View Elementary School teacher Linda Kraus recently stepped down. Noting that "it's time" to make room for new blood and to focus more on her other California Teachers Association project commitments and as council chairperson for the Stanislaus Service Center, which serves more than 25 locals, Kraus has passed the reins to fellow Sierra View teacher Stacy Graham.

Schools: No New Budget Cuts, For Now

For now, there are no new planned budget cuts for the Oakdale Joint Unified School District. Following a public hearing at the June 13 regular meeting of the OJUSD Board of Trustees, the board unanimously approved the 2011-2012 proposed budget.

Oakdale Graduates Walk Stage

The Oakdale Joint Unified School District held several graduation ceremonies over the course of three days, May 25-27, each hosted at Oakdale High School. Commencement exercises for Oakdale High School, Oakdale Junior High School, and Alternative Education schools East Stanislaus High School, Valley Oak High School, and Oakdale Charter High School hosted more than 700 graduates in all.

The sounds of "Pomp and Circumstance" rang out for three nights in a row in Oakdale from May 25-27 to commemorate the graduations of more than 760 combined graduates from Oakdale schools. Oakdale Girl A National Inspiration

Oakdale High School senior Serina Ahm was recently named the sole winner of a national scholarship offered by Jostens Renaissance, an arm of the Jostens corporation.

OID Approves Money For City Pool

The City of Oakdale's swimming pool is going to be open for the summer. The Oakdale Irrigation District's Board of Directors approved in a 4-1 vote to give the city $71,500 for the Parks and Recreation Public Swim, Water Safety, and Water Conservation programs. Director Herman Doornenbal was the dissenting vote.

Seventh Graders Explore Southwest

A special trip during spring break for a group of 16 Oakdale Junior High School seventh graders came complete with plenty of learning opportunities in science and history, as well as a significant amount of exercise and sight seeing. Each day was chockfull of these experiences for the students and their chaperones as they embarked on an adventure in the southwest.

Gold Rush Lesson Incorporates Student Drama

A play about the Gold Rush helped fourth graders at Cloverland Elementary School transfer what they learned from a textbook and get a better idea of its realities and have some fun, too. Cloverland teachers Christina Carmelich and Cindy Bellinger assigned roles to their students who then learned lines in a musical called "Gold Dust or Bust."

Day Camp Wraps Action Packed Summer

FFA Officers Attend Leadership Camp

Oakdale FFA members recently attended a three-day sectional leadership conference in Pinecrest over a weekend, at Camp Sylvester. During this time FFA chapters from the Stanislaus-Tuolumne section and the Tri-Rivers section went along with two delegates selected by their chapters. These delegates were to vote for the new sectional officers that would represent each section at regional meetings and events and also help run the section.

Super Summer Camp On Now

Summer Camp is open. Oakdale's Super Summer Camp started on June 2 and is an eight-week summer program for children in kindergarten through sixth grades to keep them engaged in fun activities, field trips, and learning opportunities five days a week.

Graduation Celebration - Class Of 2014

Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance" was a familiar tune recently as the Oakdale Joint Unified School District graduations took place Wednesday, May 21 through Friday May 23 with a total of 748 high school and junior high graduates who crossed the stage to receive their diplomas and advance to the next chapter of their lives. Each graduating class was presented to the OJUSD Superintendent Marc Malone by their respective school principal. School board members then presented diplomas to the graduates as their names were read.
