Oakdale Aca Dec Closes Out Competitive Season

The Oakdale High School Academic Decathlon team has wrapped up another successful year. In March, the OHS team traveled to Sacramento for the 16th consecutive year as the Stanislaus County representative.

Teacher Fair Upcoming In Neighboring Modesto

The Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE) is hosting a Teacher Recruitment Job Fair on Saturday, April 9 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at SCOE's downtown offices, 1100 H St., Modesto. This year's job fair is open to fully-credentialed teachers or intern-eligible candidates and credential completion candidates by August 2016 (verified by Program Completion letter or Intern Eligible letter) who pre-register on-line by Wednesday, March 30 at www.edjoin.org. Admission is free. (Candidates who do not pre-register will be admitted into the fair at 10 a.m.)

Magnolia Leaders Prep For Retirement

This week marks the final time that Magnolia Elementary School Principal Julie Minabe and Vice-Principal Kathy Jenkins will observe Spring Break as Oakdale Joint Unified staff members. At the March 14 OJUSD School Board meeting, the retirement of the Elementary school administrators as well as a host of others, was approved by the board.

OHS Scientists Advance To State

Oakdale High School's Science Olympiad Team participated in the 2016 Stanislaus County Regional Science Olympiad earlier this month. Two teams attended representing OHS. The Gold Team earned an Overall Second Place honor which now advances them to the Northern California State Finals for the eighth consecutive year. The Red Team earned a respectable 10th Place overall.

Support Oakdale Schools Races To Fun Run Success

The sun broke through the clouds as runners and walkers reported to the Cloverland Elementary School campus for the Seventh Annual SOS Fun Run on Saturday, March 12. The annual event welcomed close to 250 participants entered in the one mile and 5k race distances.

AAUW High School Speech Trek Winners

Pam Wright and Gail Marganelli, Co-Presidents of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Oakdale Riverbank Escalon Branch, have announced the winners of the local AAUW Speech Trek public speaking project. On Feb. 25, competing students (all from Oakdale High School) delivered their 5-6 minute original speeches on "Gender Bias and Inequality." This challenging topic asked that the speech makers conduct research, and address the questions of what is gender bias, what is its impact on people, and why should organizations such as AAUW continue to work to change its practice?

GATE Students Visit Celtic Faire

Two buses complete with students and family traveled to Sonora on Friday, March 11 to attend the 30th Annual Sonora Celtic Faire. GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) students from each of the four Oakdale Elementary Schools attended the faire as part of the Family Tapestry unit.

Occupational Olympics Slated For March 24

An estimated 750 Stanislaus County high school students will converge on the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds in Turlock on Thursday, March 24 for the 31st Annual Occupational Olympics and Career Exposition (OOCE). The event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with an awards ceremony at 1 p.m.
