Student Takes Seat On School Board

It is a rarity to have a student have a seat on a school board, and even more rare for that student to have a vote. Oakdale High School senior Michael Homer was recently sworn in as a member of the Oakdale Joint Unified School District's Board of Trustees to serve as a voice for the student body in the district and to vote on issues that come before the board.

The Oakdale school board is concerned about student safety with the lack of enough volunteers to serve as crossing guards at "hot spots" on the highway (F Street). Summer Projects Prep Schools

This is the time of year that schools in the Oakdale Joint Unified School District get a deep cleaning. Floors are stripped and waxed, carpets are shampooed, every desk and chair is cleaned top and bottom, bathrooms are scrubbed, walls and blinds are washed. Once the maintenance crews are done, the rooms and offices even smell clean. Plus, exterior walls and sidewalks are pressure washed and trees are trimmed.

New OHS Vice Principal Named

The Oakdale Joint Unified School District recently named Michael Tambini to the position of Vice Principal and Athletic Director at Oakdale High School. Tambini replaces Mike Moore who accepted the Principal role at OHS. Tambini officially started in his new position in July.

Oakdale High Marching Band, Colorguard Take First Place

Driving rain, wind, and cold weather couldn't stop the Oakdale High School Marching Band recently as it took first place at the Lincoln Review of Champions in Stockton. On Nov. 17 bands from the Bay Area, Fresno, and the Central Coast flocked to the review because it's one of the last of the competitive marching band season, which coincides with the end of the football season.

More Salmon Spawning For Student Study This Year

The number of Chinook salmon returning to spawn in the Stanislaus River at the Knights Ferry recreation area appears to be one of the best in several years.
