Students in the Oakdale Joint Unified School District have been in school for nearly a week, as it started Aug. 10, and the school sites have been abuzz with activity and in making the necessary adjustments.
Students have registered for classes and found out who their teachers are going to be for the new school year. School starts today, Wednesday, Aug. 10 for students throughout the Oakdale Joint Unified School District. That includes Cloverland, Fair Oaks, Magnolia and Sierra View elementary schools in addition to the Oakdale junior and senior high schools.
School starts in Oakdale on Wednesday, Aug. 10. To get the students processed with their books, ID cards, school pictures, and oriented to campus, Oakdale High School and Oakdale Junior High School are each hosting "Round Ups" over the course of two days on Aug. 3 and 4.

Lessons learned from United States history books came alive when a contingent of three Oakdale Junior High School teachers and 40 recent eighth grade graduates made a non-school educational trip to the East Coast, covering Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and New York City.
After serving for 10 years as the Oakdale Teachers Association president, Sierra View Elementary School teacher Linda Kraus recently stepped down. Noting that "it's time" to make room for new blood and to focus more on her other California Teachers Association project commitments and as council chairperson for the Stanislaus Service Center, which serves more than 25 locals, Kraus has passed the reins to fellow Sierra View teacher Stacy Graham.
For now, there are no new planned budget cuts for the Oakdale Joint Unified School District. Following a public hearing at the June 13 regular meeting of the OJUSD Board of Trustees, the board unanimously approved the 2011-2012 proposed budget.
The Oakdale Joint Unified School District held several graduation ceremonies over the course of three days, May 25-27, each hosted at Oakdale High School. Commencement exercises for Oakdale High School, Oakdale Junior High School, and Alternative Education schools East Stanislaus High School, Valley Oak High School, and Oakdale Charter High School hosted more than 700 graduates in all.
